Ahead of their fifth studio album, Boston Manor has released the lead single “HEAT ME UP” to generate excitement for their forthcoming full-length Sundiver.
The single is dark and mysterious but carries a certain warm familiarity to it. Accompanied by two earlier releases, “Container” and “Sliding Doors,” the album carries resounding themes of understanding and second chances.
In discussing the album, frontman Henry Cox says, “Going into the pandemic, we knew our next record would be a double album released in two parts. The first a short shadowy-noiry electronic record set over one night and the second a sprawling rock record that documents the following day.”
Sundiver, representing that following day, is the counterpart to Boston Manor’s 2022 album Datura, which documents the night and was conceived under vastly different conditions. Recorded over a bone-chilling winter while pandemic panic was still astir around the world, the band hardly saw the sun while recording Datura. Conversely, Sundiver was recorded over two summers full of barbecues and naps in the sun.

Cox continues, “We were obsessed with trying to make a record that felt like blistering sunshine, or that wavy/hazy horizon you get when the pavement is super hot. But we didn’t want it to sound ‘happy’ or ‘major key’. Sundiver is by far Boston Manor’s best and most ambitious record to date. We couldn’t be happier with it, I really hope our fans love it as much as we do.”
Boston Manor is slated to release Sundiver on September 6 via SharpTone Records. You can pre-order the album here and check out the full tracklisting below.
