Billie Eilish Performs ‘Barbie’ Hit And Holiday Classic On Saturday Night Live

This past weekend, Billie Eilish channeled her inner Holiday Barbie during her most recent Saturday Night Live performance. Weird Barbie herself, Kate McKinnon, introduced the performance along with Barbie film director, Greta Gerwig, to present Eilish’s song, “What Was I Made For?” She wrapped the evening with a soulful rendition of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

The holiday classic captures a jazzy feel with light rata tapping drums and pizzicato playing of the cello. The setup fit Eilish’s soft yet impactful delivery well. Her brother and producer, FINNEAS, joined her on stage to play piano. With the build-up of the song, fake snow began to fall on stage to compliment the cozy holiday decorations. Her current red roots in her hair matched a baggy red sweater vest to fit the Christmas spirit.

Earlier on the show, she graced a darkened stage to sing her standout, melancholy single from the Barbie soundtrack. A large sign in signature Barbie pink and stylized font that read “Billie” hung above the stage, while the only other person on stage was FINNEAS playing the piano.

Halfway through the performance, the sign lifts, and the two are joined by a string ensemble while a decorative screen showcases a montage of photos of SNL women in their adolescence, similar to the iconic ending scene in the Barbie movie. Her outfit was on theme with a soft pink polo over a baby blue one.

The song has received a nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture and is in the running for five Grammy Awards, including Song of The Year. This is the third time that Eilish has been a musical guest on the legendary sketch comedy show. Her first appearance was in 2019.
