Following the release of “Weightless” and “Impurities,” pulled from her forthcoming sophomore album, My Soft Machine, Arlo Parks has delivered a third preview of her full-length with the release of “Blades.”

Paul [Epworth] is just a wizard; he has this childlike spirit that I’ve always really loved and he brought that to ‘Blades,’” Parks shares. “I wanted to make something that I can dance to, finally, because I feel like my songs don’t really have that quality in general. So, I took inspiration from bands like ESG, artists like Kaytranada, and a lot of the kind of ’70s Zambian psychedelic rock that I love.”

Despite the track’s message centering around broken friendships, “Blades” is a funky, melodic ballad with a synth-filled, dance-worthy chorus that will slink its way into the deepest crevices of your mind.

“I imagine this moment at a party where you see someone across the room that you haven’t seen in a while,” Parks continues. “You felt yourself growing apart, and you’re like, ‘Should I, should I not?’ And then you find the courage to approach them. That’s the story of that song.”

Parks’ sophomore album will arrive on May 26 via Transgressive Records. Following the release, Parks will embark on an international tour that will include a stop at the ninth edition of All Things Go Festival on Oct. 1 alongside the likes of Lana Del Rey, boygenius, and more.
