In a scene that once prided itself on being a haven for the outcasts, the alternative community has lately been cracking under the weight of gatekeeping, toxicity, and performative pain. On the latest episode of idobi Warped Radio, TX2 shares that not only does he want to repair the scene, but he wants to rebuild it from the ground up.

With a thriving Discord server boasting over 50,000 members, TX2 is leading a movement in the alt space. The X Movement, as it’s known, acts as a digital support group for thousands of fans navigating mental health struggles, identity crises, and everyday loneliness.

“I’ve always wanted to be more than a musician,” Evan shares. “I really struggle. I’m a nihilist. I struggle with: What’s the purpose of life? We’re all just animals on a rock floating through space. So what is there to live for?”

He continues, “For a lot of my life, I thought there was nothing to live for. But I found something to live for by thinking: If I get a platform, I am able to use power to guide people in the right direction.”

That direction led to the creation of the X Movement—a space TX2 says he desperately needed when he was younger. “A) they’re not alone, and B) we talk about mental health, and what does that mean. It means talking about how you’re doing because no one’s going to know unless you actually share it. Find healthy coping mechanisms. Hurting yourself will help nobody. That is something I struggled with. That’s why I’ve talked about it in the past. I want people to know you’re not alone… I’m definitely on a road to recovery.”

The TX2 project mission doesn’t stop at community building—it’s also about challenging the uglier parts of the scene he and his bandmates love. “I just feel like the alternative scene is so toxic right now. It’s filled with gatekeeping and hate. I see all these social media creators who are alternative, always tearing each other down. It doesn’t feel like it’s focused on a safe space.”

He continues, “And another thing that really sucks is I feel like as an emo singer because of like this reputation of emo, there’s this like, ‘oh, you’re a creepy guy because you’re an emo singer.’ And I hate that. So I was like, another thing I can do with this movement is actually repair the alternative scene and get rid of that bad reputation. And the way I’m going to do that is by talking about awareness.”
