Ethel Cain — “Nettles”
Ethel Cain returns with “Nettles,” her first standalone single of the year and a tender prelude to her upcoming album, willoughby tucker, i’ll always love you, arriving August 8. Written in the same Alabama house where she completed 2022’s preacher’s daughter, “Nettles” reaches backward into a softer past. “I wanted to go back in time to a moment of sweetness,” Cain shares. The result is a lush, heartfelt offering that signals a new chapter without losing sight of the old. The album is available for preorder here. —Paige Owens
King Princess — “RIP KP”
King Princess is back, and Pride month has never felt more magical. Her new song “RIP KP” is utterly sultry and will pull you in with its sexy and campy music video visuals. The artist shares, “‘RIP KP’ is about the sexy side of girl violence – when love takes over your brain like a cordyceps and suddenly you’re getting fucked all over your house, acting a fool. It’s the perfect way to open the record: dramatic, unhinged, and a little tongue-in-cheek. I wrote it during a full ego death – leaving LA, my label, my old life – and somehow landed back in NYC making the music I would’ve obsessed over at 15. It’s a slutty anthem for the lesbians. We need debauchery this summer.” Secure her third record, Girl Violence, on September 12, and pre-order it here. —Maria Serra
Vienna Vienna — “Cashgrab”
Vienna Vienna is back with glimmer rock banger, “Cashgrab,” for your summer delight. The artist shares, “Conspiracy and surrealism over a groove so tight it’s pretty much fatal. Plus, it rips. In session I asked, ‘How would it feel to fuck your landlord?’ Like this. Like a cash grab. Let the people dance!!!!” Catch Vienna Vienna at various California tour stops in September.
Pool Kids — “Easier Said Than Done”
Pool Kids dive headfirst into emotional turbulence with the title track from their forthcoming album, Easier Said Than Done. Christine Goodwyne’s vocals flit with tension before erupting into a scream that captures the chaos of living with OCD—“It robs your life of joy,” she candidly shares. The track is a gripping preview of the band’s next chapter, with the full album set to arrive on August 15 via Epitaph Records, followed by a headlining tour with Truth Club and Pony. —Paige Owens
President — “Fearless”
The second single from one of the most talked-about groups in alternative right now shows the more melodic side of the mystery band, while still keeping its heavy edge throughout. Sprinkled in with some 808s, some interesting vocal effects, catch breakdowns for good measure, and an instantly memorable chorus, we’re already starting to see what makes President stand out. —Patrick Walford
Broadside — “Warning Signs”
After inking a deal with Thriller Records earlier this year and releasing their first single of the year, Broadside is back with their latest track, “Warning Signs.” Frontman Oliver Baxxter shares, “‘Warning Signs’ is a subtle confession—about craving someone toxic enough to ruin you, yet sweet enough to keep you begging for more.” The track glows with sleek, summery instrumentation that wraps around Ollie Baxxter’s shimmering vocals. It’s bright, catchy, and full of momentum—an undeniable contender for your summer playlist. —Paige Owens
Orthodox (ft. Brann Dailor of Mastodon) — “One Less Body”
Brann Dailor guesting on a metalcore track?! Say no more. This absolutely fucking rules. Track 9 off Orthodox’s new album A Door Left Open, this is one of the coolest guest spots in heavy music this year on a record that also features additional awesome spots from Boundaries and Comeback Kid. Nothing but ferocious, unsettling, and balls-to-the-wall heavy from the first second to the last, don’t just listen to this song. Check out the whole record. —Patrick Walford
Turnstile — Never Enough
Simply put, this is a once-in-a-generation album. This record will be talked about and looked back on with so much love for decades to come. From dreamy synth pop vibes mixed with their signature hardcore/punk sound that’s drawn people to the band for over a decade, this is a timeless piece of music. There’s such innovation and evolution in their sound, yet it is still unabashedly Turnstile in each and every way.
