Where My Pit Girls At?

No shade to any of the talented photographers nominated for iHeartRadio’s ‘Favorite Tour Photographer’ award but: Where are the women at? With a complete male ballot it’s painfully obvious that something is missing. There’s a massive number of women in music who are creating kickass content and deserve nominations (heck, many should win the award). Here are just a few of the amazing female photographers who had a huge year creating for some of music’s hottest acts.

Catherine Powell – Kacey Musgraves / Dan + Shay

You will recognize Catherine’s work if you follow Kacey Musgraves on any social media platform (or even if you don’t since her images have gone viral more than once). Who can forget the photo of Kacey riding on a horse after her show at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo? But touring the country with a Grammy Award winning artist isn’t the only thing Catherine does. She also ran and published her own magazine NKD mag, all while jet setting around the globe for work.

Cynthia Parkhurst – Jonas Brothers

One of the most notable comebacks of 2019 was the Jonas Brothers, and capturing
just about every one of those moments was Cynthia Parkhurst. She has encapsulated their shows on the Happiness Begins tour beautifully and has given us some of the most intimate moments behind the scenes. But one of the greatest parts of seeing work from Cynthia is her incorporation of fans having the time of their life at the show.

Judy Won – Halestorm

If you want to talk about explosive; let’s talk about how much of a punch Judy Won
packs with every photo from on tour with Halestorm. From the stage to off days
overseas, Judy’s photos are crisp and full of emotion. It makes you feel like you’re
right there in the pit or hanging out in the green room with Halestorm. Judy doesn’t
only produce incredible content for the team but also helps them run VIP for their shows.

Anna Lee – Walk The Moon / X Ambassadors

When I think of vibrant and high action, the first photographer I think of is Anna Lee. Some of the most powerful images of Walk The Moon and X Ambassadors from this year were by her. There’s something about the way she captures an artist that makes you wish you hadn’t missed the gig. Anna also gets fans involved when she can as part of her #ALMFanCam project where she’ll take a disposable from the first fan that brings one to a show, take photos on it throughout the day, and then return it at the end of the night. How cool is that?

Hélène Marie Pambrun – Harry Styles

There’s a very simple word to sum up the work of Hélène Pambrun and that is iconic. If you have paid attention to anything Harry Styles has done in recent times, you probably have seen her incredible work as well. Hélène’s photos show a realness, vulnerability, and grit that sends chills down your spine. The way she has captured Harry on and off the stage is something that will be shared for a very long time.
