At the Grammy Museum on Monday May 6, members from The Bangles, The Dream Syndicate, The 3 O’Clock, and Rain Parade gathered, first for a collective Q&A session and then for a wonderful performance/jam.
Back in the early 1980s, punk scenes started to develop in California. Bands like the Germs, Black Flag, X, and the Avengers took what they were doing seriously but appeared to be having more fun than punks from other cities. And one of the originals was Geza X.
Each month For The Record is here to bring you the best places to find your next favorite band in different cities all over the world—right to your screen. First stop: London.
Sure, everyone likes a little Jay-Z, Nelly and DMX party music now and then, but sometimes you just want a bit more to chew on, and for a lot of people that means turning to the world of underground rap. The Difference, a compilation of 12 new songs due in June on the Official Jointz label, is already catching a buzz thanks to “Clear ‘Em Out,” an alleged Nelly dis track by KRS-One featuring Tonedeff. According to the album’s producer, Domingo (Fat Joe, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony), when he asked KRS-One if the track was a direct attack on the St. Louis… Read more »
Columbia Records’ Crazy Town, Portrait/Columbia Records’ The Union Underground and American Recordings/Columbia Records’ American Head Charge have all signed on-board on what just might be the heaviest Ozzfest ever. Following a big British blow-out at the Milton Keynes Bowl in England on May 26, Ozzfest 2001 opens full-force stateside at the World Amphitheater in Chicago, Illinois. Launched by the heavy metal pioneer and visionary Ozzy Osbourne, the first Ozzfest, a multi-band festival held in 1996, hit only two markets-Los Angeles and Phoenix-but paved the way for a full-on touring extravaganza the next year. Since then, the Ozzfest has become a… Read more »
Honey Revenge has officially entered a bold new hair-a, err, era wink wink. Dropping today alongside the kickoff of their headline run on The Loving And Losing Tour, their latest single “Risk” signals a fresh chapter for the duo. Fans first got a taste of the track during their April 13 set in Australia, where it made its surprise live debut. “Risk is our fuck around and find out moment,” vocalist Devin Papadol shares. “We’re trying to take chances in this next phase as a band. The entire premise of the song is without discomfort there is no growth, and… Read more »
Good Terms have released their new song, “Progress,” preceded by their 2025 cover of “Call Me” by Blondie and 2024 LP Burnout. Uniquely, the song is partly inspired by frontman Brian McShea and his fiancée Stephanie Raynor, who, unfortunately, lost their home in the devastating California wildfires earlier this year—but they did find their engagement ring! A recent press release notes that “the outpouring of love and support reminded the couple and their extended Good Terms family of the importance of community.” Of “Progress,” the band shared on social media, “Sometimes I feel so close to the edge of failure… Read more »
Ahead of their many summer tour dates, Daisy Grenade has revealed their latest single, “So Happy.” This marks their first release of 2025, preceded by tracks “Taste,” “How To Hide A Body,” and “Hypocrite.” The lyrics on the punchy and powerful bop are so relatable. I mean, who hasn’t tried to move on and *maybe* wasn’t successful at first? The duo sings, “He looks like he just won the lottery/And I’m, I’m fine/I swore I thought I could be the bigger person/Thought I could let it go/I swore I thought I could be the bigger person/Thought I could let it… Read more »
With their new album The Lash set to arrive on July 25, The Dirty Nil has released a taste of the record with their latest single, “Spider Dream.” “I woke up one morning, completely refreshed by a nightmare,” vocalist/guitarist Luke Bentham explains. “It was a strange feeling but enough to animate a song. I had also just watched the Beatles documentary that the Lord of the Rings fella made, so I was inspired to use more jangly chords than I usually do. It was a strange one to bring to the band but the arrangement came together instantly and it… Read more »
