While the Red Hot Chili Peppers slumbered, the band’s members have been keeping busy these last couple of years, what with drummer Chad Smith joining all-star group Chickenfoot, frontman Anthony Kiedis developing a series for HBO and bassist Flea enrolling at USC to study music theory. A concert on Friday (June 6) in Charlotte, North Carolina featuring Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers turned into a tragedy for one fan. According to the Charlotte Observer, 26-year-old Ashley Farris, a student at UNC Charlotte, was electrocuted as he walked barefoot on a wet stairway at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Faris was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center-University, police said. A passer-by who tried to help Faris, 23-year-old Ryan Robards, was treated for electric shock. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are in a charitable mood, as the band has agreed to perform at a pair of benefit shows next month – one in Los Angeles, the other in New York. The Chili Peppers will join Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Thelonious Monster for a March 1 concert at the Hollywood Palladium to raise money for an ailing substance abuse counselor.
