5 Best Years For Alternative Artists At The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Ah, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. A hallowed American institution and a can’t-miss event for Garfield fans. As the New York City-based parade progresses through the streets, so too does it run across almost every television screen in the nation. While the floats and balloons ranging from the Pillsbury Doughboy, Kermit The Frog, and Snoopy have remained iconic for years upon years, we are still fixated on the unbelievable alternative celebrity guest cameos through the mid-2000s and early 2010s. Canada's labels slam proposed digital 'tax'

A revolutionary plan that would effectively legitimize file-sharing here has been slammed as “a pipe dream” by Canadian labels. The Songwriters Assn. of Canada proposes to allow domestic consumers access to all recorded music available online in return for adding a $5 Canadian ($4.96) monthly fee to every wireless and Internet account in the country. The SAC claims that the proposal, which has been presented to labels’ bodies the Canadian Record Industry Assn. (CRIA) and Canadian Independent Record Production Assn. as well as publishers’ groups, would raise approximately $1 billion Canadian ($993 million) annually. Although the SAC does not detail… Read more »

Simon Says Antonella's Time is Up; Melinda Aces it Again

We’re not even 20 seconds into the show, and Ryan Seacrest is already suggesting that we’re in for one helluva train wreck tonight. “We don’t havhe Paula! But we’ll find her, right?” This is “American Idol”? It’s the last round of semifinal performances, and nothing could be worse than Tuesday’s embarrassing men’s show . Well, I guess if they let Antonella sing for the entire episode I’d reconsider that statement. But with a group of girls this talented, even an off-night would be worth watching. And Paula’s top-of-the-show disappearing act certainly suggests that it may be chock full of potential… Read more »

The most popular country singer of the last decade after Garth Brooks sold more than 328,000 copies of his third best-of set, according to SoundScan, to place above… Read more »
