The colors were a bit faded, but the design of Lawrence Ori’s only tattoo was still visible. He couldn’t raise his arm proudly to show you anymore, but you could still see the Aerosmith logo there on his bicep.
It’s not just the tattoo. Aerosmith weaved its way through Ori’s life in both obvious and subtle ways. His license plate read “ROCKN” and his cell phone played the band’s classic “Dream On”.
Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, a poster boy for rock ‘n’ roll decadence in the 1970s, has entered a Los Angeles rehab facility after two decades as a passionate advocate of sobriety, according to an report. The Web site TMZ.com reported on Wednesday the 60-year-old rocker sought treatment for an unspecified substance abuse problem at Aurora Las Encinas Hospital. New York – Aerosmith will reconvene in late August or early September to prepare for a tour that will begin in the fall, guitarist Joe Perry told Billboard. The group also has begun sifting through material for a prospective live CD/DVD. “We’re trying to find a show that has been recorded from beginning to end,” Perry said. “That’s something the fans have been requesting: a stone cold live record with a video.” “Some of the shows we’re looking at are from the last year, but who knows,” the guitarist continued. “We just heard about somebody who had a bunch of… Read more »
Los Angeles – Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler and his wife of 17 years, Teresa, are separating, the singer announced Sunday. Tyler, 56, asked the public to respect his family’s privacy in a statement released through the band’s publicist, Mitch Schneider. “Before the tabloid media makes more of this than it is, I am announcing that my wife Teresa and I are currently separated,” Tyler said. “We’re just a family trying to work through a difficult time. A little privacy and sensitivity – for Teresa, my children and myself – would be nice.” The couple have two teenage children, Chelsea,… Read more »
Few music careers begin as dramatically as that of Philadelphia’s bluesy hard rockers Silvertide. By the end of the band’s first gig in February 2001, police had raided the club where they were playing and arrested dozens of crowd members for underage drinking and drug possession. Frontman Walt Lafty was almost hauled off as well. “I had given a bunch of equipment to my friends so they could sneak out the back and say they were carrying gear,” he explained. “Then I noticed all the gear was gone and I wasn’t out yet. So when I tried leaving, this black… Read more »
For their latest album, veteran Boston rockers Aerosmith decided it was time to return to their blues roots. Thus, Honkin’ On Bobo – possibly the most memorable title of 2004 – was born. The 12-song disc, released March 30, saw Aerosmith tackling old blues/roots covers such as Muddy Waters’ I’m Ready and Mississippi Fred McDowell’s You Gotta Move plus one Aerosmith original, The Grind. Drummer Joey Kramer, down the line from San Antonio, Tex., prior to the band’s Thursday night stop at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, said the concept has been in the works for a long time. “The new… Read more »
The long expected blues album from veteran rock act Aerosmith will finally arrive later this month. “Honkin’ on Bobo,” due March 30 via Columbia, finds the band paying homage to its influences as it covers a host of blues classics. The 12-track set also includes one new Aerosmith song, “The Grind.” “We’re not making an album for blues purists, we’re not making an album to educate people in the blues, we’re not making an album to try and copy Muddy Waters,” guitarist Joe Perry told Billboard.com last year. “What we’re doing is taking songs that when we heard them made… Read more »
