Hard rock band AC/DC has extended its Black Ice tour of North America into early 2009. New dates begin December 20 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and run through January 31 in Nashville. Tickets go on sale Saturday. Eighteen previously announced shows have already sold out, according to the band’s label, Columbia. The tour is in support of a new album of the same name, due October 21 exclusively via Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores and AC/DC’s Web site. “Black Ice” won’t be the only AC/DC title available exclusively at Wal-Mart. AC/DC has come clean about a knife-pulling incident during the group’s 1977 tour opening for Black Sabbath in Europe. In the Cash For Questions fan feature in the new edition of the British music magazine Q, AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young confirms that Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler did pull a knife on his opening act. The annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony featured the spirit of 1970s British punk, some anti-war sentiments and probably the loudest noise ever heard at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Brian Johnson is writing music and lyrics these days, but not for AC/DC or any other rock band. He’s working with British composer Brendan Healy and Sarasota Ballet Artistic Director Robert de Warren on a musical called “Helen of Troy,” an action-filled love story based on Greek mythology. Rock band AC/DC’s 14-title catalog has sold 63 million copies, according to the Recording Industry Association of America’s monthly certifications. The Australian band’s 1980 classic Back in Black has been certified for sales of 19 million copies, making it the sixth highest-certified album of all time. The success of its catalog makes AC/DC the fifth highest-certified band in U.S. music history behind Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Eagles.
