Nine Inch Nails began their Wave Goodbye tour with a pair of small venue concerts in New York City this weekend. The group performed Saturday at the Bowery Ballroom and last night at Webster Hall. Yesterday’s performance was especially noteworthy as Trent Reznor and Co. played their entire 1994 classic The Downward Spiral from start to finish, plus nearly a dozen more of NIN’s greatest hits. The online release of the new Nine Inch Nails album, “Ghosts I-IV,” resulted in just under 800,000 transactions in its first week, totaling $1.6 million in revenue, the industrial-rock band has revealed. The tally includes free and paid downloads, as well as advance orders for physical configurations like various limited-edition vinyl releases, CDs, and a boxed set. “Ghosts I-IV,” the band’s first release since becoming a free agent last October, went on sale March 2 at its Web site, http://www.nin.com. Santa Monica, Ca – Nine Inch Nails, who were scheduled to perform at this year’s MTV Movie Awards on June 4, will no longer be participating in the program. The band was slated to perform “The Hand That Feeds,” the first single from the latest Nine Inch Nails album, With Teeth. Trent Reznor has crawled out of the depths of his depression with a snarling, gut-wrenching vengeance. Reznor, along with his backing band, put on a ferocious show at the Kool Haus last night that proved the frontman at least hasn’t lost his ability to summon up rage and helplessness and spit it all out in a violent live show. The night began with the Dresden Dolls who, looking like delicate gothic marionettes, only held the attention of some of the crowd with their waltzing-cabaret, piano-tinged operatic rock.
