Nickelback cleans up at MMVAs

Alberta rockers Nickelback may have picked up a leading three trophies at the MuchMusic Video Awards last night, giving music critics across the country another reason to groan, but in the end it was all about Lady Gaga’s “flaming boobies.” The critically unpopular group, who picked up three Juno Awards back in March, went into the televised street-oriented awards show – which saw thousands of fans take over the blocks surrounding MuchMusic’s Toronto Queen and John Sts. headquarters – with a leading five MMVA nods, tied with R&B Toronto newcomer Danny Fernandes. Nickelback’s trio of trophies were for best video… Read more »

New York – Out with the old, in with the new: Nickelback has a new drummer. Daniel Adair will take the sticks for the band, Nickelback announced Friday. The former 3 Doors Down drummer replaces Ryan Vikedal, who departed in late January. “We are thrilled to have Daniel in the band and excited about the creativity that is going on between the four of us in the studio,” singer Chad Kroeger said in a statement. Nickelback received a Grammy nomination earlier this year for best hard rock performance on “Feelin’ Way Too Damn Good” from the album “The Long Road.”… Read more »

Nickelback Lose Their Drummer, Record New LP

Ronald McDonald just shed a big freaky clown tear. His favourite band, multi-platinum Canadian rockers Nickelback, have announced the departure of one of their own. Turns out drummer Ryan Vikedal has up and left, just as his bandmates get down to work on their next LP. According to a brief press release, Vikedal has not yet been replaced and the remaining members of Nickelback wish him well – of course, they’re also unavailable for comment, apparently because of the album preparations in Vancouver. Now we’ve never phoned anyone at a West Coast recording studio, but we’re pretty sure it’s physically… Read more »

Nickelback Take The Road Less Traveled For Houston Tour Stop – Review

Regardless of their breakthrough success two years ago, Nickelback erred on the side of caution when they were preparing the first tour in support of their new album, The Long Road. Small Texas towns like Grand Prairie and Shiner were selected as the tour’s first testing grounds, and cool, fall evenings at medium-sized halls like Houston’s Verizon Wireless Theater (2,800 capacity) were chosen over summertime assaults at massive amphitheaters and arenas. But somewhere between planning the tour itinerary and building a show that incorporated singles such as “How You Remind Me,” “Too Bad” and their latest hit, “Someday,” someone in… Read more »

Nickelback Strive To Please Fans, Selves With Graphic New Single

They teased the release of their third album, The Long Road, with the melodic mid-paced single “Someday,” which delivered everything their fans were used to. Now that the album is on the shelves, Nickelback hope to catch listeners with their pants down. “I like you with your pants around your feet, and I like the dirt that’s on your knees,” Chad Kroeger sings before stabbing guitars puncture the track. “Figured You Out,” one of the heavier songs on the album, will go to radio in early November. A video will be shot in the coming weeks, but a director has… Read more »

Three Days Grace On the Road with Nickelback

Jive Recording Artists Three Days Grace are gearing to tour the U.S. opening for Roadrunner recording artists Nickelback. The tour, which will hit over 20 markets nationwide, begins October 14th in Lubbock, TX and ends in November. Hailing from Canada, this exceptional band is poised to take over the U.S. with their relentless harmonies and sharp-edged lyrics. Their debut self-titled CD was produced by Gavin Brown, of Big Sugar. Standout hits include “Home” with it’s desolate intonations bonded with lead singer Adam Gontier’s guttural shrieks. “I Hate Everything About You,” the first single from Three Days Grace continues to make… Read more »

For Nickelback, Success Rocks

It’s OK with Nickelback if you want to call them a pop group. In fact, pop doesn’t begin to describe the Canadian quartet’s third album, “The Long Road.” The Roadrunner set, arguably the most-anticipated global rock release of the year, is due Sept. 23 in North America and a day earlier in the rest of the world. “Somewhere along the line, people turned pop – as in ‘popular’ – into a dirty word,” says Chad Kroeger, leader of the hard-rocking band. “We want to reach the widest audience possible and let everyone know who we are. Korn, Tool and Slipknot… Read more »

Nickelback's Kroeger Turns To Metallica, Motley Crue For Help With LP

Chad Kroeger can’t take all the credit for the songs on Nickelback’s new album, The Long Road. He had some help from Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. No, James Hetfield, Vince Neil and Steven Tyler didn’t actually show up in Vancouver at Little Mountain studio. Nor did they send Kroeger music or vocal parts. But their presence was clearly felt through the studio board, which played host to rock legends through the ’80s and ’90s. “Mötley Crüe’s Dr. Feelgood was recorded on it,” said Kroeger, “and Aerosmith did a couple records on it including Pump. And Bon Jovi… Read more »

Nickelback Choose "Long Road"

Nickelback’s upcoming album, The Long Road, due September 23rd, features some of the heaviest songs the Vancouver-based rock band has ever recorded. “It sounds like Pantera meets Metallica,” says Nickelback frontman and songwriter Chad Kroeger. “That comes out of my roots. I’m a metal guitar player at heart.” But Road’s first single, “Someday,” is a lighter track. “It’s a very ‘How You Remind Me’-esque song,” explains Kroger. “It will appeal to the largest audience… That’s what record companies are for.” While Kroeger has been the songwriter over the course of Nickelback’s three albums – 1996’s Curb, 1999’s The State, and… Read more »
