Britney Spears, 'NSYNC Lead Class of 1999

The pressure had been building up behind the scenes for longer than most music fans realized. But when the teen-pop explosion burst onto the charts in early 1999 it felt like the music world had been blindsided overnight by a flood of squeaky-clean acts who would dominate the charts for years to come. And in some cases, those ripples are still being felt today. It’s hard to believe it now, but over the course of a few months between late 1998 and early 1999, radio and MTV were inundated with the debuts and breakthroughs from Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, ‘NSYNC,… Read more »

'NSYNC, Backstreet Boys Relics Auctioned

Everything must go! One day only! If you’re in the market for some ‘NSYNC gold records, a couple of Sea Doos, 10,000 jewel cases or a LFO signed poster, then you should get down to Orlando, Florida, before the end of the day. Those items are among the thousands up for auction Tuesday (June 12) that used to belong to disgraced boy-band mogul Lou Pearlman. The items are part of a liquidation of the remaining assets of Pearlman’s once-billion-dollar Trans Continental empire – which included a jet service and management of ‘NSYNC and Backstreet Boys – that has crumbled to… Read more »

'NSYNC Reunite For One Song, No Word On Possible LP

It was short and sweet, but it’s something that ‘NSYNC fans had been anticipating for well over a year. All five members of the boy band reunited over the weekend to sing the national anthem at what’s become both a charitable and star-studded tradition: the group’s annual Challenge for the Children basketball tournament. The performance marked the group’s first since its Bee Gees tribute at the 45th annual Grammy Awards in February 2003. “It was good to hear them all together again,” Usher said after the performance. “Not anyone can sing the national anthem,” Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden said. “It… Read more »

'NSYNC Members Accused Of Being Racists In Suit By Former Tour Manager

A former tour manager for ‘NSYNC has filed suit against the group, alleging that Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are racists. Ibrahim Duarte is seeking $10 million from the boy band for firing him for what he claims were racial reasons, according to the office of his attorney, Douglas Wigdor. The suit was filed in New York State Supreme Court on November 25 against the members of ‘NSYNC as well as the group’s entertainment holding companies, Zeeks Inc., Skeez LLC and ‘NSYNC Inc. Duarte, who is black, alleges that Timberlake once used the “n”… Read more »

Justin Timberlake Says *NSYNC Reunion On Hold For Now

What’s going on with *NSYNC these days? The members have spent the past year and a half doing their own projects-the most high-profile being Justin Timberlake’s solo album Justified. Earlier this year, Timberlake said *NSYNC would regroup and make a new album in 2004. However, he recently revealed that any reunion will have to wait until JC Chasez releases his own solo album. “I think we were anticipating JC’s solo record coming out a little bit earlier,” Timberlake said. “But I think he’s planning on releasing it some time around March. You know, I’ve heard a couple of tracks, and… Read more »

Justin Timberlake Says Next 'NSYNC Album Will Sound 'Different'

When a music critic suggested to Justin Timberlake recently that the world in which his career was spawned is a distant memory, the singer immediately got defensive. “Teen pop will never be dead,” he said. “The death of teen pop and its venue as it was, sure, but… as long as there’s teens and as long as we have culture with popular music in it, teen pop will never die, as far as I’m concerned. I just think it takes on a different head.” So when ‘NSYNC reunites in the studio this fall, expect the group to take on different… Read more »

Lance Bass Says Pressure Is On For *NSYNC

Lance Bass says that when *NSYNC regroup and head back into the recording studio early next year, they will be working on the most important album of their career. “This one definitely is going to be a career record,” says Bass. Bass explains that the individual members of *NSYNC have proven that they can be successful on their own-so the pressure will be on them to prove that they can recreate the magic of their previous massive sellers, 2000’s No Strings Attached and 2001’s Celebrity. “It’s gonna be a lot of hard work,” admits Bass. “We’re all writing together, and… Read more »

*NSYNC Singer Look-Alike Says He Killed In Self-Defense

Looking like a famous musician is apparently not always as glamorous as it might appear on the surface. In February, an Eminem look-alike dubbed the “Eminem Bank Robber” by police was captured after a string of bank robberies in New Jersey. Now, it’s *NSYNC singer Lance Bass’s name and likeness that are figuring prominently in a San Antonio murder trial. Michigan native Richard Brown, 23, stands accused of murder and is on trial. He claims he fatally shot Eric Acosta, 34, in self-defense in January 2002 after he was threatened and teased about his resemblance to Bass at a party… Read more »

Britney, 'NSYNC Buried In Ticket Sales By McCartney, Stones

‘NSYNC and Britney Spears took a distant back seat to dinosaur rockers Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones and Cher this year when it came to concert ticket sales. As alarming as that might seem to Timberlake groupies, it probably has a lot more to do with the limited number of shows the young stars played than with any sort of pop backlash or classic rock revolution. Touring for the first time in almost a decade, McCartney netted $126.1 million, according to data from Billboard Boxscores. The former Beatle landed $98.8 million from U.S. shows and an additional $27.5 million from… Read more »
