Over 700 artifacts and pieces of memorabilia of Rock ‘n’ Roll history will make their way to auction on October 25 and 26, 2019. A Culver City-based company, Julien’s Auctions, is hosting the event. Two of the items that stand out are those that belonged to the late Kurt Cobain. The olive green sweater he wore during the taping of Nirvana’s iconic 1993 MTV Unplugged recording has an estimated value of $200,000 to $300,000. The remainder of Kurt Cobain’s ashes have been stolen from Courtney Love. Love was storing the ashes in a pink bear-shaped handbag that was hidden in the wardrobe closet of her Hollywood home and believes the bag was taken by a former friend. “I can’t believe anyone would take Kurt’s ashes from me. The Kurt Cobain documentary which features voiceover from the Nirvana frontman himself is due to be released in the U.S. in October. AJ Schnack’s documentary film Kurt Cobain: About A Son is set to come to cinemas in New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle in early October. Courtney Love has confirmed plans to film a dramatic recreation depicting the life of alternative rock figurehead Kurt Cobain are underway. Eleven years after his death, Kurt Cobain’s hometown has finally embraced the legacy of the late grunge icon. Last week, the title of one of Nirvana’s signature hits, “Come as You Are,” was added to the “Welcome to Aberdeen” sign on the anniversary of Cobain’s April 5, 1994 suicide. “I think it’s a good idea, and it’s about time,” Kurt’s grandfather, Leland Cobain told Aberdeen, Washington’s local newspaper, The Daily World. “I drive by there every day and look for it. Avoiding what was expected to be an intense bidding war over Kurt Cobain’s journals, a New York imprint snapped up the world publishing rights on Monday for a seven-figure sum. Publishers who got an advance look at the diaries were told to submit their bids by 11 a.m. on Monday, but the auction was called off around 10 a.m. after a deal was struck with Riverhead Books, a division of Penguin Putnam. “The journals are an intimate, unadulterated portrait of an artist of great influence,” Riverhead’s Julie Grau, who will be the project’s editor, said in a statement released Tuesday… Read more »
