My Chemical Romance just made their stop at San Francisco’s Oracle Park, and it was a night to remember. Along with playing The Black Parade in full, the band pulled out fan faves such as “SING,” “Boy Division,” “It’s Not a Fashion Statement, It’s a Fucking Deathwish,” and more. However, My Chemical Romance also played a very special cover of “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by The Smashing Pumpkins.
Notably, brothers lead vocalist Gerard Way and bassist Mikey Way were deeply inspired by The Smashing Pumpkins and Billy Corgan, specifically when they saw the group on the 1996 Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness tour. Check out the full-circle moment below.
And if you’re wondering, yes, The Smashing Pumpkins and Corgan adore My Chemical Romance and the Way brothers right back. They even posted a few memes comparing Corgan to Gerard, and Corgan says, “I love both my sons equally. I’m so proud of them.”
