Your new favorite superhero has arrived with the style of Bond and all the flavor of a Kendrick track—welcome to the Black Panther preview episode! Sherin Nicole, Monique Younger, and Philip Jean-Pierre all got to see the movie early and they’re now ready to join the Dora Milaje. Hear them discuss why they have heart-eyes for Black Panther, featuring an interview from executive producer Nate Moore and costume designer Ruth E. Carter, and a whole lot more on Geek Girl Riot!

There will be no spoilers here (we ain’t about to get on Marvel’s assassination list)—so enjoy this three-segment preview, and go see Black Panther this Friday, Feb 16!

Flailing and Screaming: All the Reasons You Need to See Black Panther
Did y’all expect anything else? This movie is ah-may-ZING. In fact, we’ve already packed our bags and by the time you read this, we’ll have moved to Wakanda. Sherin, Monique, and Philip share all the things they loved (well…as much as we could fit into the podcast—the original recording was approximately 235847 hours long).

Interview with Ruth E. Carter and Nate Moore
Sherin and Philip stopped by the Ritz Carlton in downtown DC to chat with costume designer Ruth E. Carter and executive producer Nate Moore. The pair talk putting all the details of Black Panther together from the Wakandan Bible (yes, there is one), finding solutions on the fly, director Ryan Coogler’s love of afropunk, and the overwhelming reaction to creating the land of Wakanda. See some of Black Panther’s costume and conceptual art by Ruth and the design team below!

The Machine Behind the Movie
All the technical cogs that make Black Panther run blew our fragile little minds—yup, it wasn’t just the story or the characters we were amazed by, but every little detail of this labor of love. To close us out, Sherin, Monique, and Philip dig into everything behind the scenes that makes this movie magnificent, including the directing, cinematography, casting, costume design, production design, CGI, soundtrack, and script. You know the drill, y’all: Get into it.

Tune in to Geek Girl Riot on idobi Radio every Tuesday at 11pm ET / 8pm PT for your dose of late-night geekery from our team of rioters. ‘Til next time, go see Black Panther this weekend–and check out the incredible costume art from the film below!
