Wherever you are in the world, chances are it’s pretty cold. Lucky for all of us, then, that My Body Sings Electric’s Part 1: The Night Ends acts as a teleporter, ripping you away from the frigid temperatures and everlasting snow and placing you in sunny Southern California. The album kicks off with “Keep It Simple, Stupid”, a sunny anthem that sets the tone for the rest of the collection. Next up is “Oceancrest”, a song showcases another aspect of what the band have to offer — vocalist Brandon Whalen. The singer shines on the song, and all focus is placed exactly where it needs to be. The atmospheric “Too Long, Didn’t Read” has a huge sound that seems destined for venues just as huge. If the rest of the album is daytime on the coast, “Too Long, Didn’t Read” is what nightfall feels like. “New Friends” kicks the album into high gear, leaving you absolutely certain that Part 1: The Night Ends is your latest and greatest musical friend. “Higher” and “Sleepwalker” close in around “Head Out West”, the first two following suit with the rest of the album with great beats and vocals served sunny side up, while “Head Out West” sounds like a rainy day but weaves a hopeful story of finding new prospects and taking a leap of faith. “Wild Things” brings the album to a close, and fulfills that intended purpose a hundred fold with a sound that seems to sum up the record as a whole. It’s an impeccable ending to an album that is only the beginning. Part 1: The Night Ends is the perfect record for driving around with the windows down, and is undoubtedly going to be your summer soundtrack. The album as a whole sounds like the outcome of what would have happened if Fun. and Hot Chelle Rae formed a super group, and in just one listen it can make you feel so electrified you’d think the band’s name were literal. The world better watch its back, because My Body Sings Electric are coming in fast.
