Sophie Powers recently visited the idobi Radio Studios for a chat with Fish on Gone Fishkin. During her visit, she discussed her latest EP, Glitch: Lvl 1, her growth as a performer, and what it means to be a young female musician in the scene. Glitch: Lvl 1 just recently came out on July 12.
Powers cites several recent influences, stating that “Grimes, Frost Children, The Dare, and Charli XCX—the music inspires me, the art itself…it really inspires me.” Not only is Sophie inspired by the artists she listens to, she gains inspiration from her lived experiences and emotions, as well as the ones she knows her audience can relate to.

“I am so passionate about making people feel valid for their emotions because mine were invalidated for so long,” The newly 20-year-old singer earnestly shared in the interview. She continues, “I really want to take my artistry to another level because girlhood, womanhood, I am at an age where a lot is happening in my life, my career, friends, family, and I think a lot of other people in Gen Z are [experiencing change]. I want people to listen to these songs and remember feeling this way…or I still feel this way.”
Glitch: Lvl 1 is the first installment of music that is authentically Sophie—and authentically human. Powers shares, “I want people to be able to listen to the songs in the car, windows down, imagine they are racing through a cotton candy land…and be happy and angry and sad and crying all at once.”
