Before the start of Sad Summer Fest this year, Dani Nigro and Keaton Whittaker of Daisy Grenade stopped by the idobi Radio Studio to chat all about their new single “Hypocrite,” their last year, and what’s coming for them this summer.
Over the last year, Daisy Grenade has released several singles, toured with Fall Out Boy, and sang at Madison Square Garden, just to name a few things.
Of all the amazing things the duo has accomplished since our last conversation, one standout moment is their performance at Madison Square Garden with Fall Out Boy. Madison Square Garden, being their hometown arena and the most famous in the world, made this an especially significant achievement.
Dani and Keaton shared, “It was obviously the craziest thing we’ve ever done, and it was like so funny because it happened so fast like two days before they were playing MSG. We were going to go obviously and watch, but Pete texted us, and I was filming something, so we have it all on camera. And I was like, ‘Oh, my God, Pete just asked us if we wanted to sing at Madison Square Garden.’ And it was crazy. We didn’t know what he wanted to do until the day before. We didn’t rehearse it really at all. We, like, went to sound check and, like, did it once. But it was just, like, such an honor.”

When asked about their new single “Hypocrite,” they said, “I think, you know, when we come out, and we write with other co-writers, it’s one of my favorite things to do because Dani and I will sit in our bedroom and write songs till the fucking cows come home. But it’s so nice to, like get in with other people. And I was just saying this yesterday, actually, like, I think when they set up sessions for us or whatever, when we talk to people about wanting to write with them, I think what’s so interesting is not necessarily what their skill set is, but what that person’s personality brings out of you. We wrote ‘Hypocrite’ with Courtney Ballard, Steph Pesopoco, and Lil Aaron.”
The band goes on to say that 15 minutes into the session Lil Aaron started spelling out “Hypocrite,” and the song was basically written!
Be sure to catch Daisy Grenade on the remainder of Sad Summer and When We Were Young later this year.
