As we continue to celebrate Black History Month by empowering and amplifying the voices in our music community, it’s crucial to remember that embracing diversity—whether that includes people of color, women, nonbinary individuals, or LGBTQIA+ voices—is essential every day and not just throughout the 28-30 day monthly calendar period designated for celebrating these individuals. We caught up with the empowering, progressive, pop-punk three-piece Meet Me @ The Altar on February 1 while they were performing in Cleveland, Ohio, to chat with them about diversity and the celebration of marginalized voices. Throughout the day we spent with MMATA and their electrifying… Read more »

The new single is preceded by the hyperpop-infused “Cardinals” and emo-tinged “Otherside.“ Telltale offers spine-tingling visuals as they recount Poe’s timeless spooky tales in “EDDY.” You can see glimpses of the tell-tale heart, itself. Appropriately, Poe did actually live in Richmond, and a museum for the author is currently located in the Virginia city. Bands covering other bands! Emo act Ben Quad has covered their label and tourmates Arm’s Length’s song, “In Loving Memory,” via Wax Bodega. The act repurposes the original song into a faster rendition, with a concoction of modern pop-punk that’s infused with original emo riffs. Needless to say, listening to both side-by-side, changes the game. “We wanted to challenge ourselves and try to make the song our own by adding our own style of riffs and vocal melodies but make it distinctive,” says frontman Sam Wegrzynski about why they chose to cover this particular track. He explains that it has… Read more »
Metal act Like Moths To Flames has set fire to the scene with two new singles via UNFD. The tracks, “Paradigm Trigger” and “Angels Weep,” are the group’s first releases of 2024. The duo songs stick to their classic, heavy sound. Vocalist Chris Roetter explains that “Paradigm Trigger” is about a terrifying sensation when we’re the most vulnerable while in bed and “stuck in a levitate[d] state of sleep paralysis. Including a lot of feelings of anxiety, it’s meant to represent the feeling of being stuck.” That theme is translated in the song with a spooky, spider-like guitar effect while… Read more »
Sleep Theory hop on the reimagination train with their new version of their song, “Fallout.” Departing from the original nu-metalcore, hard rock sound, the act flexes their ability to be somber, yet vulnerable while still encompassing the full power of the track. A lyric video with a single lavender flower stands wavering, yet strong in front of a destroyed cityscape, which emphasizes the meaning behind the song. “Go and keep your distance/As you fall to pieces/In your toxic madness” ends the track with heartbreaking, pain-filled vocals from singer Cullen Moore. The previous rendition generates rage-filled regret about a bad relationship.… Read more »
