Blink-182 Offer Perfect Diversion – Review

If music can be a great escape from the cares of the day, whatever they be, then Blink-182’s fun show on Wednesday, rescheduled from a week earlier in light of recent events, was a perfect getaway. The San Diego pop-punk trio discharged their usual output of between-song locker room comments, and their three-minute tunes, which generally address little more than the standard teen concerns (first dates, school, loneliness), were all delivered with the players’ trademark sense of humor still very much intact. The 75-minute production opened with recent radio hit “The Rock Show,” which was accompanied by a giant flaming… Read more »

Blink-182 Can't Tone Down Live Show

With Blink-182’s continued trek across North America tour in support of its latest album, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, comes the crass nightly onstage humor and language. The trio compounds its behavior by performing it front of a flaming, 12-foot-high sign boasting the F-word. Singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge says that it’s always been that way with the group and always will be, regardless of their occasional concern about the message to their younger fans. “When we first started playing, I remember we had so much fun just cracking jokes on the microphone, it’s like we just talked all the time,”… Read more »

Pop Goes The Emo On Jimmy Eat World's Bleed American

You might think that after parting ways with a major label, Jimmy Eat World would take the opportunity to further indulge in the thoughtful experimentation that marked 1999’s Clarity, their second and final release on Capitol. After all, no label means no more A&R guys frowning at songs like Clarity’s 16-minute-plus “Goodbye Sky Harbor,” with its drum-loop buildup and crescendo of overlapping, programmed vocals. But left to their own devices, Mesa, Arizona’s favorite sons made their most straight-up pop record to date – Bleed American, which hit stores Tuesday. “Things still got pretty gnarly in the studio as far as… Read more »

Blink 182 Add Tour Dates

Blink 182 kicked off its tour on Wednesday (July 4) in Moline, Illinois at Mark Of The Quad Cities, and the band literally proved to naysayers that it gives a flaming flying fuck. As fans awaited the band, the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey played. As the curtain opened, fans were greeted by a giant “FUCK” sign engulfed in flames, circa Kiss 1977. The rest of Blink’s set also contained a heavy dose of pyrotechnics. Parents who accompanied their children to the show may have sat with mouths open in shock at the giant burning expletive in the background,… Read more »

Review: Blink-182, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket

You can dismiss Blink-182 as cartoons if you like. They’re certainly not going to stop you. They even call their new album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket: Say it out loud, let your inner eighth-grader savor the cadence of the phrase. It sums up Blink-182’s wiseass brat-punk ethos almost as well as their recent live album, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back), which featured the butt-stupidest stage banter since Kiss’ Alive! (Mark: “You can leave now and beat the traffic!” Tom: “Or you can stay and beat your meat!” – and they get paid for… Read more »

Blink Singer Pleased With Wedding Band

Blink-182 singer Tom DeLonge was brought to tears at his wedding Saturday near San Diego – not because he was marrying longtime girlfriend Jennifer Jenkins, but because she had booked his favorite band, Jimmy Eat World, to play at the reception. “I was in tears,” DeLonge said in the June 11 issue of People magazine. “I cried more than any girl ever cried. That was the gnarliest thing that ever happened to me.” Bandmate Mark Hoppus was one of his groomsmen at the ceremony.

Blink-182 Deliver San Francisco Treat

There were few surprises when Blink-182’s Civic Tour 2001 rolled into the Warfield on Tuesday. Singers Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge belched and told poo-poo and pee-pee jokes. Kids crowd-surfed. Bras landed onstage. New songs – there were two – sounded like old songs. Even the encore was preceded by an assurance from bassist Hoppus that the band would be right back to play more songs. And yet the trio thoroughly entertained the capacity crowd of 2,500 fans with a 19-song, 75-minute set that mixed poppy punk rock with juvenile abandon. As usual, the jokes began before the music did,… Read more »

Blink-182 About To "Rock"

Blink-182 have picked a single for their forthcoming album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, and are offering fans a sampling on their Web site. An excerpt from the song, “The Rock Show” is currently streaming at www.blink182.com, a couple weeks before its May 7th radio date and some six weeks away from the June 12th release of Jacket. Of course, the track is loaded with bounce and hooks, typically youthful and reflective, “Couldn’t wait for the summer and the Warped tour,” sings singer/bassist Mark Hoppus. “I remember it’s the first time that I saw her there.” The San Diego… Read more »

Blink-182 Get Hard On New Album

With a title like Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, which must be said aloud to be fully appreciated, it’s only appropriate for Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge to describe his band’s fourth full-length album as hard and fast. “This record is the hardest, fastest record that we’ve done,” DeLonge said from a San Diego studio where the band recently wrapped up recording. “It’s way more punk-rock than our previous records, and we’re excited about it.” Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, due June 12, follows 1999’s multiplatinum Enema of the State and last year’s successful live album, The Mark, Tom… Read more »

blink-182 Go No. 1 On Billboard 200 With ‘ONE MORE TIME…’

In less than a month, blink-182 has hit it big with ONE MORE TIME… as the new album hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. According to Billboard, the LP started at “125,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 26.” When sharing the news, blink-182 posted, “Thank you all for making this happen,” on Twitter/X. This marks the trio’s third No. 1 charting album alongside California (their 2016 record with Matt Skiba, sans Tom DeLonge) and 2001’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. This may not come as a surprise as “EDGING,” the… Read more »
