The largest North American power blackout in history plunged more than 50 million people into darkness in a 9,600-square-mile swath from the East Coast to the Midwest and Southern Canada on Thursday, affecting everything from subways in New York to the water supply in Cleveland. The outage also cut the power to a number of summer tours, knocking Bob Dylan and Tori Amos offline and sending many other bands scurrying for backup plans and places to crash for the night. Goldfinger, Gob Headline Wakestock

Now that the unfortunately dubbed SARSstock is finally over and done with, Ontarians have another “stock” to look forward to: Wakestock. Wakestock, held each year at Wasaga Beach (which, for those of you not in the know, is the world’s longest freshwater beach), is a huge four-day festival of boarding, bands, bikinis and beaches. While the main attraction of Wakestock is the World Cup Wakeboarding competition, the bands the organizers have booked aren’t too shoddy either. Ska-punk veterans Goldfinger will be headlining the musical portion of the festival. They’ll play a special on-site concert with Vancouver punk faves Gob on… Read more »

Creed Singer Defends 'Symbolic, Personal Gesture' He Made At 'Drunken' Show

Three months after four fans sued Creed alleging that Scott Stapp was so wasted he couldn’t perform at a December show in Chicago, the band’s singer has responded and denied the allegations. In fact, Stapp told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday that, quite to the contrary, he was offering an over-the-top, dramatic gesture meant to convey the difficulties he was facing in his personal life at the time. In a pair of lengthy voice mails the singer left with the paper, Stapp said that what fans mistook for him passing out onstage during the song “Who’s Got My Back” was… Read more »

Pop punks drop a rock on Orange County girls – Review

At the very least, give credit to New Found Glory and Good Charlotte for getting teenage girls enthusiastic about rock that has real guitars and real drums. More than that, those two pop-punk bands deserve to be saluted for the energy and enthusiasm they displayed at their show Wednesday night at the University of California, Irvine’s Bren Events Center. But no one can applaud them for nuance or finesse. Their performances are like this: Go from zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds, and keep it there. The kids who filled the Bren Center loved it. They screamed, sang along (especially… Read more »
