Timbaland, P. Diddy, Neptunes Do It Their Way On Bizkit Remix LP

As Fred Durst says, the title tells it all: New Old Songs. The Neptunes do it all for the nookie, Timbaland tries a mission impossible and P. Diddy shows his way on Limp Bizkit’s upcoming remix album, due in December. Also among the hitmakers who are contributing versions of Bizkit’s songs are DJ Premier and William Orbit – in addition to Limp’s own DJ Lethal, guitarist Wes Borland and Durst. “The remixes are like brand new songs,” Durst said Thursday. “We’re writing our new record, so this is something you can put in your stereos and bump to.” E-40 and… Read more »

The still-untitled collection is tentatively scheduled for a November 20 release. The DVD is scheduled to contain the videos for “Mudshovel” and “Fade,” as well as the band’s entire MTV Unplugged broadcast plus two additional songs that didn’t make the show, “Pressure” and “Suffer.” Earlier this year Staind’s acoustic side drew attention, when Aaron Lewis’ version of “Outside,” with special guest Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, appeared on the Family Values ’99 album, and eventually topped Billboard’s Modern Rock… Read more »

Durst, Aguilera, Stefani Hope To Open People's Eyes With 'What's Going On' Videos

Christina Aguilera’s golden locks, Fred Durst’s backward ball cap, Gwen Stefani’s rainbow makeup and Justin Timberlake’s freshly grown peach fuzz took a back seat Thursday to a look unprecedented even in popular music – blindfolds. “I feel like I’m playing pin the tail on the donkey,” Aguilera quipped in between takes during the first day of shooting proper videos for three all-star remakes of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” Many of the artists who contributed to the project – from Ja Rule to Staind’s Aaron Lewis to Alicia Keys – will don blindfolds for the video shoot, which heads to… Read more »

Noel Looks Back Without Anger on a Decade of Oasis

Bust-ups, divorce and family feuds have kept British rock band Oasis and the battling Gallagher brothers in the news as much as their music. But as Oasis nears its 10th anniversary, guitarist Noel Gallagher told Thursday’s Evening Standard newspaper that despite their well-publicized rows, his relationship with Liam was one of the few constants in his life. “Slowly but surely, my personal life started falling apart and all I had left was my brother and my band,” Gallagher told the paper. “And I thought, ‘well I’m not giving that up because that’s Our Kid and that’s my band. Why should… Read more »

Lennon Tirade to Fellow Beatle Up for Sale

Heartfelt letters from Beatle John Lennon, including a rant he fired off to Paul and Linda McCartney, are included in a five-decade collection of pop memorabilia up for sale Thursday at auction house Christie’s. The draft letter, littered with spelling mistakes, deletions and expletives, swings between hurt and anger and affection for McCartney, offering an insight into their strained relationship at the time of the Beatles’ breakup in the early 1970s. The letter was expected to fetch almost $120,000, Christie’s said. Another Lennon letter, to his cousin Leila, shows a deeply nostalgic side as he reminisces about childhood Christmas vacations… Read more »

Stars leaving egos at home for the Emmys

The Emmys, television’s highest honors, will be presented belatedly Sunday under the cloud of the Sept. 11 attacks with many stars planning to bypass strutting down the red carpet and to leave their egos and low-cut dresses at home. “It’s an awkward time for everybody, and people are still feeling unsure about whether it’s the right time or not,” said veteran Hollywood publicist Heidi Schaeffer. “People aren’t looking to call attention to themselves right now.” Reflecting the Emmys’ subdued tone this year, many stars have decided to forego the ceremony’s red-carpet arrival, among them nominees Martin Sheen of “The West… Read more »

VH1 is going bananas with New York-based music events. On Thursday the music cable channel announced it was joining with Miramax and Cablevision to present a Madison Square Garden benefit concert featuring Paul McCartney and the Who for victims of the attack on the World Trade Center. On Friday, VH1 said it would tape the seventh annual “VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards” in New York on Oct. 19 for cablecasting as a two-hour primetime special Oct. 22. But the plan is to tone down the glitter and frivolity, said Todd Schwartz, executive producer of the awards show, and “tip our hat to… Read more »
