Dutch Court Clears Web Music Swapping

In a setback for efforts to halt copyright abuse, a Dutch appeals court on Thursday told a technology firm it could distribute a software program that is designed to let users share music and films on the Internet. The ruling in the case between Internet software company KaZaA and Dutch music rights organization Buma Stemra overturned a decision in November in favor of the music industry. The music industry says rampant online piracy has severely damaged recording sales and the movie industry fears the same could happen to it as computers become more powerful. The Amsterdam Court of Justice ruled… Read more »

Blink-182 Side Project Shoots Video, Plan Shows

Singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has gone hippie, boy band and even naked for Blink-182 videos, but for the first clip with his new side project, he’s sticking with punk rock. The video for Boxcar Racer’s first single, “I Feel So,” is performance-based with “an old-school punk aesthetic,” according to the band’s MCA Records spokesperson. DeLonge and his bandmates – Blink drummer Travis Barker, Over My Dead Body guitarist Dave Kennedy and bassist Anthony Celestino – filmed the clip on Thursday at a studio in Burbank, California, with director Nathan “Karma” Cox, whose résumé includes videos for Linkin Park and System of… Read more »

Chris Cornell Quits New Rage Project

If Rage Against the Machine fans harbored some anger before, they’re about to be really pissed. Fans hoping to catch the first glimpse of the new, Chris Cornell-fronted group on this summer’s Ozzfest will have to make do with the mental image they’ve built since the two parties began jamming together last year, as the former Soundgarden frontman has withdrawn from the project, effectively scrapping plans to participate in the annual summer metalfest. The disappointing news comes just days after the group, which had yet to settle on a name, was announced as one of Ozzfest’s mainstage attractions, along with… Read more »

Puddle Of Mudd Deliver No-Frills Rock At Philly Date – Concert Review

No disses, no DJs and no drama – just rock. The Los Angeles band Puddle of Mudd, whose current single “Blurry” is a #1 modern rock hit, tore through an hour-long headlining set of blue-collar rock Thursday night at a sold-out Electric Factory. Puddle of Mudd – Wes Scantlin (vocals and guitar), Paul Phillips (guitar), Doug Ardito (bass) and Greg Upchurchperformed on a stage devoid of props or ornate backdrop. Frontman Scantlin wore everyguy clothes: jeans, T-shirt, windbreaker jacket and a reverse baseball cap. But what the band lacked in show-business dazzle they made up for in verve and intensity.… Read more »

Marilyn Manson Set Title For Next LP, Find Inspiration In '30s Berlin

Marilyn Manson have set The Golden Age of Grotesque as the title for their forthcoming album, the band’s namesake singer announced Thursday (March 21). Although the group is still recording, Manson described the album on his official Web site as a “genius deluge of hardcore guitar-drum violence” and “reckless electronic-punk vaudeville mixed with ’30s cabaret decadence.” Producers Tim Skold (KMFDM) and Ben Gross (Filter) are working with the group on The Golden Age of Grotesque, for which Manson said several songs are finished, including one called “Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth.” Manson described the album last fall as… Read more »

Testifying on Wednesday (March 20), Buck claimed that after taking a sleeping pill on the April, 2001 flight, he felt “woozy” and “fear[ed] I had had a heart attack and was in a weird hospital in Disneyland.” When asked if he remembered details for which he is charged, the guitarist told the jury: “None whatsoever.” What Buck does remember is being in a police cell at London’s Heathrow Airport, saying he… Read more »

Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach was taken into police custody for making terrorist threats and for drug possession on Wednesday. Witnesses told police that Bach initially wanted to go outside for a smoke and a bartender wouldn’t allow him to take his drink outside. According to… Read more »
