Houston rapper South Park Mexican received a 45-year prison sentence Thursday (May 30) for “sexually assaulting” a 9-year-old girl, a spokesperson for Harris County 351st Criminal District Court confirmed. On May 18, a jury convicted the 31-year-old man of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The artist, born Carlos Coy, faced a possible life sentence. The recording industry from artists to major labels joined on Thursday in a rare show of unity to demand tougher laws barring what they called “payola”-like promotion of music played on the radio. They also called for a sweeping government review of radio industry consolidation. Harrell turned himself in to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in Pascagoula, Mississippi, Thursday (May 23), after being wanted by police for a misdemeanor simple assault charge, according to a police spokesperson.
