Foo Fighters Do Cheap Trick A Solid In Salt Lake City

Although the identity of the surprise middle act, Stacked Actors, had already leaked throughout a lean crowd of 200 at the Mountain Dew Ice Village in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday (Feb. 9), its frontman nevertheless made a point to properly introduce his band. “We’re not really called Stacked Actors,” announced Dave Grohl. “We’re Foo Fighters.” (“Stacked Actors,” of course is the title of a Foo Fighters song on There Is Nothing Left to Lose, which is allegedly about Courtney Love). Despite the blown surprise, the crowd erupted. The Foos promptly burst into a loose, yet lissome eight-song set… Read more »

Hear'say Accused of Stitch-Up Over New Member

Pop band Hear’Say were at the center of a stitch-up row Wednesday amid accusations that they selected one of their own dancers as a new band member. New recruit Johnny Shentall, 23, was apparently plucked from thousands of hopefuls who had traveled to London from all over Britain last weekend to queue for auditions. But in a front-page splash the Sun said even though the chart-topping band said they had never met Shentall before, he was in fact one of 14 dancers on stage with the band at the Top of the Pops awards last November. “Johnny already knows the… Read more »

Jewel, R.E.M. Offer Passion Over Politics At AIDS Benefit

“How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” Michael Stipe asked the crowd soon after R.E.M. took the stage Thursday night at the venerable venue. “Practice,” the crowd blurted in unison. “Well, we didn’t,” Stipe responded. “So if you hear a bum note or something that doesn’t sound right, I urge you to sing louder in your head.” The tour-shy Athens rockers and granola-pop folkie Jewel were among those on hand for an evening of spirited entertainment at “You Gotta Have Friends: Partners in the Fight Against AIDS,” a benefit for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis. Wes Borland: Why He Left Limp Bizkit

The more time Wes Borland spent in Limp Bizkit, the more things around him turned black. First his wardrobe – draping cloaks that brought to mind one of his favorite characters, Darth Vader. Then his eyes – gripping contacts that, next to his flaring nostrils, made him look like a guitar-toting monster. His heart was the next to go. “Bells start going off, like, ‘This is what it feels like to sell out,’” Borland recalled. “I’m enjoying all the perks of [Limp Bizkit], but I feel my heart is going black, because this is not what I’m called to do.… Read more »

Korn Singer "Damned"

Korn’s Jonathan Davis has co-written the score for the film adaptation of Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned, due out February 22nd. Britney Spears Is A Man, Baby! (In A New Movie)

While on the road last year filming his latest independent movie, director Ludi Boeken and his relatively unknown cast decided to stop at Hooters for lunch. It would have been no big deal except that one of his stars looks almost identical to Britney Spears. And, of course, he (yes, he) was dressed in character as the pop icon. “We were so used to seeing Robert as Britney, we didn’t think anything of it,” Boeken recalled. “All of a sudden we had like 800 people looking at us. He fled, and they chased him. From then on, we just brought… Read more »
