Harrison Attacker Goes Free

All things must pass-including criminal sentences-and that has the family of the late George Harrison ticked off. The rocker’s wife and son are angrily objecting to the release last week of the deranged fan who broke into the ex-Beatle’s mansion in December 1999 and nearly killed him in a knife attack. An independent panel in England comprising a judge, a psychiatrist and a British citizen determined 36-year-old Michael Abram, a former drug addict who suffers from schizophrenia, was well enough to be released back into the community and set him free on July 4 from the Scott Clinic, a psychiatric… Read more »

Strokes Say No Thanks To Big-Name Producers, Directors

The Strokes may be the “it” band of the moment, but don’t expect them to be lining up studio sessions with “it” producers like Glen Ballard or the Neptunes. When the New York garage-rockers begin recording their second album later this summer, Is This It producer Gordon Raphael will again be behind the boards. “It’s not gonna be like, ‘Oh, now that we’re successful, we’re gonna work with all these super-producer guys that are going to make us a top-selling hit,’ ” singer Julian Casablancas said backstage at Saturday’s KROQ Weenie Roast. “That’s never been the goal for us. We… Read more »

Linkin Park Master Reanimation But Kant Spell

Linkin Park’s Reanimation is one step closer to coming to life. The album, consisting mainly of new versions of tracks from the group’smultiplatinum 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, has gone through the mastering stage, and a final track list has been settled upon, according to the band’s manager. Fred Durst reiterated claims of inadequate security on Monday during a hearing looking into the death of a 15-year-old concertgoer last year. From Los Angeles, the Limp Bizkit frontman spoke via videolink to the Glebe Coroner’s Court in Sydney, Australia, according to his manager, Peter Katsis. Korn Promise To Be 'Even More Brutal And Awesome' On Tour

Even without a name, Korn’s upcoming tour looks to be a wicked, three-tiered assault on the senses, complete with crowd participation, a revolving stage and a mic stand with breasts. The Tour With No Name is scheduled to begin June 20 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and run through 26 gigs before wrapping up July 29 in Denver. For concertgoers already familiar with Korn’s new album, Untouchables, released Tuesday, they can expect the songs’ already vicious rumblings to become even more so. “These songs are just awesome,” singer Jonathan Davis said none too modestly, “and they’re even better live. The world’s next would-be space tourist, Lance Bass of boy band ‘N Sync, said Friday that Russian space doctors have cleared him for a flight to the International Space Station aboard a Russian rocket, a journey he hopes to make this fall. Bass, 23, shrugged off questions about the dangers of space flight. “I like to be positive, I’m an optimist,” he told reporters in Moscow. “I know physically I can do it, I know mentally I can do it.” The Russian Aerospace Agency said earlier this week that it hadn’t yet received commercial proposals from Bass or his representatives… Read more »
