Billy Gilman Not So Little Anymore

Don’t picture little Billy Gilman any more. The kid is 15 now, with a voice that took two years to change and a new CD out. His new release is “Music Through Heartsongs,” an album of songs that are the poems of 12-year-old Mattie J.T. Stepanek. Stepanek battles a rare form of muscular dystrophy, a disease that took the lives of his three siblings and left him dependent on a ventilator that feeds oxygen through a tube attached to his neck. But he has sold more than 1.5 million copies of his inspirational books and has countless admirers including Oprah… Read more »

Tapes of Lennon and Stepdaughter to Be Auctioned

He was one of the biggest rock stars in the world and she was just a little 5-year-old girl as they sat on the floor in 1969, singing and telling stories with a tape recorder running. Sounds like just a normal family activity, except the man was Beatle John Lennon and the little girl was the stepdaughter he barely knew, Kyoko Cox. In 1969 fans worried the Beatles would break up. But instead of attending the last Beatles recording session, Lennon was in Denmark with his second wife Yoko Ono. They were there to visit Ono’s ex-husband Tony Cox, an… Read more »

Durst Dishes Alleged Britney Nookie On Howard Stern Show

The he-said/she-said between Britney Spears and Fred Durst went into overdrive Thursday morning when the Limp Bizkit frontman offered intimate details about his professional and personal relationship with the singer on Howard Stern’s syndicated radio show. “I swear on my son Dallas’ baby blue eyes I was telling the truth [about our relationship],” said a groggy Durst, who admitted to being out late the night before. Stern and his crew egged him on for salacious details for about a half an hour. “This [relationship] went on for a little while, that’s what’s pretty unbelievable about this crap she’s saying,” Durst… Read more »

In a year fraught with political turmoil, turbulence and insecurity, music fans turned to their favorite songs to take them away from many of their problems and help them come to terms with others that were impossible to escape. At the 45th annual Grammy Awards, held Sunday (February 23) at New York’s Madison Square Garden, apolitical hedonists and social activists alike rallied together to celebrate the… Read more »

Vignettes From the Grammy Awards

Despite concerns that the Grammy Awards would become a forum for anti-war sentiment, most political messages were muted. “NO WAR” was written in silver letters on Sheryl Crow’s guitar strap as she performed, although her hair usually covered up most of the “NO.” Bonnie Raitt slipped in a four-word message, “let’s build some peace,” before handing out an award. And No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani wore a halter top emblazoned with the word, “love,” and combat fatigue hot pants. “I hope we all are in agreeance that this war should go away as soon as possible,” said Limp Bizkit lead singer… Read more »

Britain’s latest manufactured pop groups were forced to hold back their tears Wednesday after promoters canceled their debut 11-night “Popstars” tour. Boy band One True Voice and their chart-topping female rivals Girls Aloud had been due to begin the two weeks of arena concerts on March 1. Concert promoter Triple A Entertainments and Granada, the producers of the “Popstars” television show, both declined to comment on why the tour was canceled. Media reports suggested tickets had not been selling, but a spokeswoman for the London Arena, where the bands were due to play on March 3, said ticket sales had… Read more »

Justin Timberlake On Tourmate Christina: 'She's Bad'

At the American Music Awards two weeks ago, Justin Timberlake was pretty secretive about his upcoming concert plans. But now that touring partner Christina Aguilera has spilled the beans, Timberlake feels justified to start yapping about the summer extravaganza. “It was an idea that both of our managers concocted,” he said. “When it came to me I said, ‘It sounds really interesting. It would be fun to be on tour with somebody who’s that talented’ “. Although some folks have raised an eyebrow at the idea of Justin touring with a supposed rival of Britney Spears, Timberlake wants to downplay… Read more »

High Court Rejects Mattel Appeal on Barbie Song

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected on Monday an appeal by Mattel Inc. over its lawsuit against MCA Records Inc. claiming the 1997 pop hit “Barbie Girl” had infringed on the toy maker’s doll trademark. Without comment, the justices let stand a federal appeals court ruling dismissing the lawsuit on the ground the song by the Danish band “Aqua” was parody and social commentary covered by the U.S. Constitution’s free-speech protections. Mattel, the world’s largest toy maker which has made the doll since 1959, sued MCA Records, its parent and other units of Universal Music, a subsidiary of French media giant… Read more »

Band: 'Bee Gees' Name Died With Gibb

The Bee Gees name died with Maurice Gibb, one of the surviving band members said Wednesday. Robin Gibb said he and older brother Barry would no longer use the name under which they and their brother Maurice performed for more than 30 years. “Anything we do, we will do together, but it’ll be as brothers ? not under the name of the Bee Gees, that will be reserved in history as the three of us,” Robin Gibb told Britain’s GMTV television show. But, he said, the surviving siblings would continue to make music. “I think Maurice would want that.” Maurice… Read more »
