Weezer Go Green – "The Green Album" Due May 15th

Following much hemming and boatload of hawing, all is set in stone for Weezer’s many-moons-in-the-making third album. Produced by Ric Ocasek, The Green Album will drop as planned on May 15th, it’s cover art closely resembling that of the band’s eponymous debut (lovingly called “The Blue Album”) – a picture of the foursome against a solid backdrop. The nod to their 1994 nerd-core breakthrough is no doubt intentional, a clear signal that Rivers Cuomo and Co. have returned, at least in part, to the signature neo-New Wave sound somewhat absent from 1996’s poorer-selling second album, Pinkerton. According to a posting… Read more »

Durst Says Time Is Right For His Movie About School Outcast

Fred Durst says he can help explain the violence plaguing America’s schools with his upcoming filmmaking debut, “Runts,” about a high school outcast. “Crazy things are happening that don’t need to be happening, and people are retaliating in the wrong way,” the Limp Bizkit frontman said. “This movie needs to happen now.” But the film is still far from hitting theaters. Durst said if a threatened actors strike hits Hollywood this summer, production will not begin until the strike is over. The project has been in development for more than a year. “There are so many movie studios that are… Read more »

TVT Records Court Win In MP3 Battle

Indie label TVT Records, whose catalog boasts recordings from Nine Inch Nails and Guided by Voices, scored a victory in its legal fight against embattled music portal MP3.com, supported by a precedent set in court last year by the major labels. U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff granted TVT a partial summary judgment, affirming the label’s musical copyrights were willfully infringed by MP3’s digital music locker service, My.MP3.com. Rakoff said MP3 was not permitted to dispute TVT’s infringement claims on the grounds of collateral estoppel, a legal convention that says an issue that has been decided in a prior suit… Read more »
