Modern rock quintet 311 will embark next month on its 41-date summer Unity tour. The outing comes in support of the group’s seventh studio album, “Evolver,” due July 22 from Volcano Records. The outing is set to kick off July 15 in Bakersfield, Calif., and criss-cross the country before closing Sept. 6 in San Diego. Opening acts on the tour include Something Corporate, G. Liam Lynch was onstage about two minutes total, yet it was his song that best summed up Saturday’s 11-hour KROQ Weenie Roast. It was truly the “United States of Whatever.” As in, whatever goes. Dashboard Confessional has left its support slot on Beck’s North American tour, effective immediately. The Chris Carrabba-led group played its final gig on the trek Saturday outside Denver. The move is being chalked up to “circumstances beyond our control” on Dashboard’s official Web site (http://www.dashboardconfessional.com), although sources indicate the band may have left the tour for financial reasons. Fellow support act the Black Keys will remain on the trek through its June 27 conclusion in Irvine, Calif., and will play a longer set in Dashboard’s absence. Marilyn Manson has been left off the bill for the Rochester, New York date of this summer’s OzzFest tour, reports the Democrat And Chronicle newspaper. A spokesperson at the Six Flags Darien Lake in Rochester, Laura Spallone, told the publication, “Several people in the area expressed an uncomfortable feeling about having that artist in our area.” Tour promoters Clear Channel chose to not back Manson and preferred to stay out of the controversy surrounding the August 11 date at the Darien Center. As if a live CD of every show on their current tour weren’t enough, Pearl Jam have begun selling a live DVD of a December club gig at the Showbox Theater in Seattle. “Live at the Showbox” is available only on the band’s official Web site and at their concerts and features the full set from a December 6 warm-up for the band’s current world tour. Though it does not have any bonus features, the live disc differs from the group’s extras-laden “Touring Band 2000” DVD thanks to the intimate setting in the 1,000-plus capacity theater. Double duty wasn’t necessarily what new Voivod member (and recently announced Ozzy Osbourne bassist) Jason Newsted had in mind when he left Metallica over two years ago, but that’s exactly what he’ll be doing this summer as Voivod and Ozzy play Ozzfest 2003. After nine months of recording with at least five different guitar players, Limp Bizkit still aren’t finished with their new album. Fred Durst has set aside the 19 tracks already recorded and is starting fresh with new guitarist Mike Smith, formerly of Snot. “The chemistry with our new guitar player, Mike, is so dope that we are spending the next couple weeks writing a new album!” Durst wrote on Limp Bizkit’s Web site Wednesday.
