Linkin Park To Join STP, Staind On Family Values

Eerie rap-metal sextet Linkin Park will join Stone Temple Pilots and angst-ridden hitmakers Staind on the third edition of Family Values this fall. “As it stands right now, it’ll be Stone Temple Pilots, with us playing before them and Linkin Park playing before us, and then two unknown bands that I’m sure will rock also,” Staind frontman Aaron Lewis said. A source close to Linkin Park confirmed the Southern California group is on the trek. Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland said in April that STP would top the bill. Family Values producer John Scher said Monday (June 25) that… Read more »

Radiohead Lend Song To Olympics, Visit 'South Park'

While Radiohead’s latest album, Amnesiac, is destined for RIAA certification after selling more than 232,000 copies its first week, the Oxford-based quintet is also going for the gold with the song “I Might Be Wrong.” The International Olympic Committee will use the track in upcoming TV spots for the Winter Games taking place in Salt Lake City in February, according to drummer Phil Selway. The spots will feature narration over segments depicting snowboarders, skiers, ice skaters and other winter athletes in action. If marrying the geeky genius of Radiohead to sports seems odd, well, it is. “It’s a bit of… Read more »

Slipknot Sully Supermarkets' Name At Big Day Off Opener

Slipknot have run afoul in a Missouri ballpark, their onstage cussing allegedly despoiling the wholesome name of a Midwest supermarket chain. Ramey/Price Cutter Supermarkets, which owns 29 stores throughout southern Missouri and southeast Kansas, expressed concern following Slipknot’s profanity-laden performance Sunday at Price Cutter Park in Springfield, Missouri. The show apparently offended many neighbors, who filed obscenity complaints with the Ozark Police Department, according to an Associated Press report. A spokesperson for Ramey/Price Cutter president Larry Willis said that the store wishes to meet with concert promoters to decide whether or not it “agrees” with artists booked at the venue,… Read more »

Staind Leaves Mark On Album Charts

Radiohead’s highly anticipated fifth album posted the strongest first-week sales figures in the group’s history, but the mercurial British band failed to break the cycle of Staind’s album-chart dominance. “Amnesiac” (Capitol), the follow-up to Radiohead’s No. 1 debut “Kid A,” took second place this week, selling more than 231,000 copies, according to SoundScan data. That’s just 13,000 fewer units than Staind’s sophomore album, “Break the Cycle” (Elektra), sold in its third week on the charts. The hard-rock act has shifted nearly 1.3 million discs to date. Coming in just behind Radiohead was the Universal debut of the St. Lunatics, a… Read more »

KS95-Minneapolis OM/PD Leighton PeckIn an age of radio where “localness” is being de-emphasized, one example of a station stepping up and serving its community, and a stellar example at that, is KS95 (KSTP/FM)-Minneapolis’s Third Annual “KS95 for Kids Radiothon.” Held last month at the Twin Cities’ Mall of America and hosted by KS95 morning duo Van Patrick & Cheryl Kaye, the 84-hour (!) event helped raise an astounding $1.54 million, breaking the national record for a fundraiser of this type.
