The Darkness Light Up British Rock Awards

British rock band The Darkness struck a blow for the big hair, skin-tight catsuits and wailing guitar solos of the 1980s Thursday, outshining rivals at Britain’s biggest heavy metal awards. The much-hyped quartet won two awards, for best album and best live act, at music magazine Kerrang!’s 10th annual ceremony in London. It was a far cry from the band’s humble roots in rural Suffolk, eastern England, where lead singer Justin Hawkins and the band used to perform before tiny audiences in bars. “We’ve always behaved like stadium rockers, even at the beginning when we were playing in pubs,” Hawkins… Read more »

Dashboard Leave High Mark On Albums Chart

Maybe honesty really is the best policy… for placing high on a Billboard chart. The unabashedly sincere Dashboard Confessional’s third studio album, A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar, will come in at #2 on next week’s Billboard albums chart. Sales of more than 122,000 copies affords the follow-up to 2001’s The Places You Have Come to Fear Most a first runner-up slot, right behind Alan Jackson’s Greatest Hits Volume II. The most popular country singer of the last decade after Garth Brooks sold more than 328,000 copies of his third best-of set, according to SoundScan, to place above… Read more »

A Perfect Circle Illuminate The Darkness With Flawless New York Show – Review

With little pomp and no showboating, A Perfect Circle were all about the music in the first headlining performance in support of their upcoming album, Thirteenth Step. That shouldn’t surprise any APC fans or those familiar with shows by singer Maynard James Keenan’s other band, Tool. Never once did he holler, “Hello, New York” – in fact, he jokingly made a reference to New Jersey – nor did he ask if fans were ready to rock. It didn’t matter. He obviously was. And so were his bandmates, who took the stage in formation: guitarist Billy Howerdel at the front of… Read more »

Linkin Park's Chester Bennington's Stomach Woes Continue

Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington must have realized lately that a hospital is somewhere he belongs. Back in May, the ill-fated screamer was diagnosed with a crippling back and stomach ailment that forced the band to cancel 12 European shows. Despite thorough investigation, doctors were unable to pinpoint the source of Bennington’s mysterious problem. Rather, they have merely speculated that it could have been either an intestinal disorder or a parasite, the latter of which may have been transmitted to Bennington through improperly cooked food (that’ll teach ‘em to let Fred Durst grill the burgers next time…). Since then, things… Read more »

Linkin Park Singer Recovers From Illness In Time To Check Out Girls Going Wild

Every night on the Summer Sanitarium Tour, Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington is tearing it up, just as he swore he would. There was a time, though, when it looked like he might have to break his promise. Less than six weeks ago, Bennington was checked into a Los Angeles hospital with severe back and stomach pains, and doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him. “Thank God it’s over,” he said backstage before a recent performance in Philadelphia. “There’s nothing more depressing than a hospital room, with crap hanging out of your arms. They still don’t know what… Read more »

Linkin Park Explains Rejecting Download Of Single Tracks

Linkin Park, whose Meteora is one of the biggest selling rock albums of 2003, has joined the likes of Kid Rock, Metallica, and Green Day in nixing Internet sales and downloads of individual album tracks. The bands only want their full albums available for sale via Internet download. Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington revealed that the band still wants fans to get the music via the Internet, but he said it has to be done in a way that works for fans and the bands. “We’re all going to have to adjust,” says Bennington. “You know what I’m saying? Eventually… Read more »

Singer Chester Bennington was admitted to the hospital on May 30 for intense back and stomach pains and remained there for nine days. Doctors told him not to sing until at least this past Tuesday. So on Wednesday Bennington bounced out of bed and rushed to a Los Angeles studio to film a full day of scenes for the group’s next video. The band will release the clip later… Read more »
