Looks like it’s going to be a less rockin’ New Year’s Eve this year. The perennially youthful-looking Dick Clark will likely be taking it easy on December 31. Clark suffered a mild stroke on Monday and is currently recovering in a Los Angeles hospital. The 75-year-old television icon has been living with type two diabetes for the last 10 years, but has been a beacon of hope for anyone on the way to their golden years, barely visibly aging a day in just over three quarters of a century. Multiplatinum acts Jay-Z and Linkin Park are the latest to merge musical forces in a legally sanctioned mash-up. With the help of MTV, the two acts have taken the concept – which intertwines two songs, often placing the vocals of one track atop an instrumental section of another track – one step further. Instead of simply doing a mash-up remix of one track, as other artists have done, Jay-Z and Linkin Park have created an entire CD/DVD project based on the mash-up concept. New York – With the bright lights of lower Manhattan shining on the stage, the band U2 played a surprise outdoor concert Monday in a waterfront park beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Although the MTV-organized show hadn’t been publicly announced or advertised, thousands lined up at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, a riverside park between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and across from the New York skyline. No. 1 electronics retailer Best Buy Co Inc. on Wednesday said it reached a multiyear agreement to promote Napster as its leading digital music service through in-store marketing and broadcast, print and online advertising. Napster is a division of Santa Clara, California-based digital media company Roxio Inc. Under terms of the deal, Best Buy will receive Roxio stock worth up to $10 million over the term of the agreement and Napster will work with Best Buy in jointly funded marketing activities, the companies said.
