Blink-182's Mark Hoppus Joins MxPx In Wrecking Hotel Rooms

IRVINE, California – After 13 years, three labels, seven albums and a career-retrospective DVD, MxPx say they have a record that will put their past work to shame. “This record will kick all of our other records’ asses!” singer/bassist Mike Herrera said. The band’s forthcoming LP, Panic, is its first disc for SideOneDummy and the follow-up to 2003’s Before Everything & After, which spawned punk-pop singles like “Well Adjusted” and “Everything Sucks (When You’re Gone).” “[This record] is raw, but it’s heavy, and it’s a different MxPx,” said the 29-year-old Herrera. “Someone that’s known us in the past may be… Read more »

The Beatles Earn Landmark Sales Record

Though they haven’t been a band for about 30 years, The Beatles can’t seem to stop breaking records. They have produced more #1 singles and albums than any other group in history. They were the masterminds behind the most covered song of all time and two of their members have been crowned the most successful songwriters ever. John, Paul, George and Ringo continue to dominate the industry – they have become the first act to earn six of the Recording Industry Of America (RIAA)’s diamond awards for records that have sold 10 million copies. In April, 1, the band’s compilation… Read more »

Travis Barker Calls His Plus-44 Side Project 'Way Out There'

Lately, it seems like Travis Barker’s schedule consists of puking in his bathroom, taking illicit smoke breaks before meeting with his wedding planner, chewing out said wedding planner and then buying punky Dior purses for his wife, Shanna. At least, that’s what we’re led to believe on “Meet the Barkers.” But it turns out the former Blink-182 drummer and current star of reality TV has been really, really busy as of late, cranking out tunes for his electronic side project, Plus-44, which he formed with Blink’s Mark Hoppus and Carol Heller, formerly of Cali-punks Get the Girl. When MTV News… Read more »

Linkin Park Trying To End Contract With Warner

Rock group Linkin Park are threatening to leave their record label, saying Warner Music has limited resources and is lagging behind in the industry. The band’s management company said in a statement that they doubted Warner’s ability to sufficiently promote the band’s upcoming album due to recent cost-cuttings at the company. Linkin Park claim to be responsible for 10 per cent of Warner’s music sales. However, representatives at Warner are accusing the band of overstatement, saying they have accounted for only about three per cent of American sales over the last five years. “While Linkin Park’s talent is without question,… Read more »

It's A Dark Day For Green Day In Somber 'September' Video

Just as Green Day’s American Idiot has a theme running through it, so too do the band’s videos from the album – they all share the vision of director Samuel Bayer. After working with Bayer for “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Holiday,” the band hooked up with him again for “Wake Me When September Ends” after the guys returned from a sold-out Asian tour at the end of March. The shoot took place in Los Angeles, and according to a spokesperson at Warner Bros., the video reflects the song’s serious tone – it’s about frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s… Read more »

Blink-182's Hoppus, Barker Form Electronic Side Project

Ever since that fateful February day when Blink-182 announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus, fans of the band have been clamoring to know just what the future holds for their beloved Mark, Tom and Travis. For the most part the guys have remained silent, aside from a few vaguely worded statements from drummer-turned-reality-TV-star Travis Barker. So MTV News sat down with singer/bassist Mark Hoppus, and while he claimed the group’s current hiatus had been planned for some time, he also made it sound like Blink fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a reunion. “We’ve always planned to have… Read more »

Mike Shinoda's Solo Album May Divide Linkin Park Fans

Linkin Park rapper Mike Shinoda has spent the last six months raising funds for tsunami victims, designing a line of DC shoes, co-authoring a book and establishing a scholarship at his alma mater, the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. And what did he do in his off time? Not much. He only recorded a solo album. While backstage at last month’s Music for Relief: Rebuilding South Asia concert, the workhorse MC/producer told MTV News that he’s been keeping busy with a hip-hop-tinged side project that he hopes won’t offend Linkin Park’s guitar-lovin’ fanbase. “It’s not straight hip-hop,… Read more »
