Jay-Z To Release 'Jay-Z Unplugged' Next Week


It’s been a good week for hip-hop king Jay-Z. On December 6, he received a three-year probation sentence, as opposed to jail time, for pleading guilty to stabbing music executive Lance “Un” Rivera in 1999. And Tuesday (December 11), his record label announced that the rapper would release Jay-Z Unplugged the following Tuesday (December 18). Jay-Z taped the live performance November 18 at MTV Studios. Jay-Z was backed by hip-hop band the Roots, and the performance features singers Mary J. Blige and Roots protege Jaguar in the set. The program airs tonight (December 12) on the music video channel. Vivendi in USA Networks TV Talks


Vivendi Universal, seeking an elusive U.S. distribution outlet for its array of television and film assets, said on Tuesday it was in talks with USA Networks, sending the U.S. firm’s stock up sharply. Vivendi chief Jean-Marie Messier told Reuters the talks with media mogul Barry Diller’s USA Networks may lead to a purchase of the firm’s entertainment assets. Jimmy Eat World have announced details of a two-date headlining UK tour and seven dates supporting Blink 182 in January 2002. The band’s next single has also been confirmed. The single, The Middle, is due for release on 28 January 2002. It follows Salt, Sweat, Sugar and is taken from the band’s self-titled album. After the Ramones said “Adios amigos” for the final time in 1996, singer Joey Ramone wasted no time in starting the recording of what would unfortunately turn out to be his posthumous solo album, Don’t Worry About Me, due out February 18th on Sanctuary Records. The second annual Center of the Universe on Hollywood Boulevard will feature three stages showcasing those DJs and others, including Sander Kleinenberg, DJ Sneak and Marques Wyatt. Harrison, Beatles albums get sales boost


Album sales of the music of George Harrison and the Beatles surged following his death last week at age 58 of cancer, album retail tracker SoundScan reported Wednesday. The Beatles’ “1” – a collection of the 27 Fab Four singles that reached No. 1 in the United States or Britain – sold nearly 31,000 copies in the week ended Dec. 2, almost double the previous week’s total.
