Celine Dion Not Afraid of Las Vegas

Singer Celine Dion says she’s not afraid of moving to Las Vegas, where she will begin a three-year, 600-show engagement at Caesars Palace hotel next year. Dion told a news conference Wednesday that her 1-year-old son, Rene-Charles, “is not going to be raised between a craps table and a slot machine. He will not even be in school by the time we leave Las Vegas.” The 33-year-old Canadian singer, who is from Quebec, said Las Vegas has become “more family-oriented – like Disney World, it has everything, water, mountains and golf.” Her husband-manager, Rene Angelil, said the Las Vegas show,… Read more »

Britney, Justin Continue To Shoot Down Breakup Claims

Amid rampant tabloid rumors, Britney Spears and ‘NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake have issued a statement insisting that they are still very much a couple. “To set it straight, both of them are very busy and focusing on their careers,” read the statement, which was issued Wednesday (March 20). “They love each other very much and have not broken up. The demands on their time have naturally created a significant time apart, which could be misconstrued as a more permanent situation.” Spears herself shot down the breakup rumors in an interview with MTV Italy over a week ago, but the rumor mill… Read more »

Vedder Rambles, Green Day Scramble As Ramones Enter Hall

A mohawked Eddie Vedder put the regal Waldorf-Astoria hotel in a punk rock state of mind Monday night when he inducted the Ramones into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Nearing the end of his 17-minute speech, Vedder said, “After this, I’m sure the evening will move quickly, but it’s the Ramones and it’s punk rock and I’m just about finished and I hope you’re OK with that.” The crowd’s response included some jeers and boos. “Apparently you’re not. F– you,” he replied. But overall, the night was filled with special moments – including a Talking Heads induction and… Read more »

Disturbed Get Over The Sickness And Start New Album

With a platinum debut album on their resume, Chicago nü-metal powerhouse Disturbed could have hired almost anyone to produce their second disc. Instead, they returned to Johnny K, who worked on the band’s 2000 LP, The Sickness. Disturbed entered the K’s Groovemaster Studios in Chicago last weekend to begin recording their second album, Believe, which is scheduled for release in September, the band’s publicist said. The record will include “Prayer,” which the band premiered on last year’s Ozzfest, and about 10 other songs that were mostly written since November. Once the album is completed, knob-twisting guru Andy Wallace (System of… Read more »

SXSW '02: Can We All Get Along?

South by Southwest, Austin’s annual music conference that usually showcases the best new artists coming down the pike, kicked off, oddly enough, with a plea to go back. The call came from Robbie Robertson. The onetime leader of the Band expressed mild alarm at the state of the music business during his keynote address Thursday morning. Go back, he suggested, to that first moment of musical discovery. “Music took us on a journey, and we’re still on that journey,” he told a packed ballroom at the Austin Convention Center, noting that his own first impressions came during childhood visits to… Read more »

Puddle Of Mudd Singer Won't Face Domestic Violence Charges

After reviewing the evidence surrounding Wes Scantlin’s alleged roadside altercation with his fiancée, the Ventura County district attorney’s office has decided not to pursue charges against the Puddle of Mudd singer. Scantlin and Michelle Rubin were arrested Sunday and were being investigated for battery and domestic violence. In a scene strikingly similar to Puddle of Mudd’s video for “Control,” the couple was seen fighting on the side of Highway 126 in Piru, California. Witnesses reported seeing a man forcing a woman into a Jeep Cherokee driven by a third person. Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers stopped the Jeep… Read more »

Digitized Creed Battle Demons, Giant Spiders, Journalists

Many a band has had to battle its demons along the path of its career. Creed’s been there, but at this moment they’re also going to war with metal-plated beasts and giant, saber-toothed spiders. The creatures are characters in the computer-animated video for “Bullets,” the follow-up to Weathered’s “My Sacrifice.” Created by video game developers Vision Scape Interactive (“SeaBlade,” “Twisted Metal” 3 & 4), the clip depicts Creed as soldiers of the light battling forces of darkness. Many scenes are reminiscent of “Lord of the Rings,” but with imagery meant to reflect the way Creed have dealt with the biting… Read more »

Brandy Blocked From #1 Slot By 'O Brother' Soundtrack

The man of constant sorrow should have plenty of cause to celebrate, though Brandy might be kind of crabby. After 63 weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack will levitate to #1, beating out the R&B crooner, who seemed headed for a chart-topping debut. Last week, O Brother, which has sold over 4 million copies since its December 2000 release, jumped from #15 to #2 after being graced with a Grammy for Album of the Year. While the album will move up on the chart with sales of 160,000 copies, it sold around… Read more »
