Silverchair's Diorama – Review

Silverchair’s Diorama is a dramatic change of sound for a band once dubbed “Nirvana in Pyjamas”. Diorama bares little resemblance to Silverchair’s grungy past. If we had any hints where they were going on previous records, then ‘Emotion Sickness’ off Neon Ballroom comes to find. Diorama is one bold move and one that will lose them old fans and gain them some new. The creative output of Daniel Johns on this record almost overshadows the input from Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou. Johns has written all of the songs and therefore takes full responsibility for this new sound. It is… Read more »

With the passing of Layne Staley, those who knew him best remember him as deeply troubled yet immensely talented. The singer’s Alice in Chains bandmates – guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez, drummer Sean Kinney and former bassist Mike Starr – their manager and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell gathered Saturday, a day after police… Read more »

You probably never got that sophisticated, but pioneering director Michel Gondry did, thanks to the White Stripes. In the eye-popping video for “Fell in Love With a Girl,” a two-minute blast of O.P.P.-like fantasy, the candy-colored pair from Detroit strum, jump and sprint their way through a building-block realm that… Read more »
