No 'Grease' For 'NSYNC, Bass And Fatone Pursue Movies On Own

The members of ‘NSYNC traveled to the Cannes Film Festival last May to announce – with maximum fanfare – that they planned to film a movie together. In October, the group’s Lance Bass revealed that the movie in question would “most likely” be “Grease 3.” And in fact, the group had been working on a potential “Grease” sequel with the California production company Total Film Group, according to sources close to the project. “I think if you had all five guys of ‘NSYNC, people really wouldn’t take the movie seriously.” – ‘NSYNC’s Lance Bass   But ‘NSYNC’s substantial clout has… Read more »

Paul Simon, Mystikal, Dave Matthews Headline Jazzfest 2001

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s Web site – Where else in the world but the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival could Paul Simon, Mystikal, the Dave Matthews Band, Celia Cruz, Femi Kuti, the Neville Brothers, Van Morrison, Al Green, Lucinda Williams and more than 400 other acts mix it up with pheasant gumbo, crawfish bread, oyster po-boys and Cajun boudin? If music is the food of love, and Jazzfest is ground zero for the music-as-feast truism, the 32nd annual event – which takes place over seven days between April 27 and May 6 at the city’s Fair Grounds… Read more »

Aaron Carter Hits Road With A*Teens

He beat Shaq, and now he’s taking on the rest of the country. Aaron Carter, whose Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) jumps 11 spots to #4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week, is launching a 46-date American tour on June 17 in Santa Barbara, California. Sweden’s A*Teens will open the shows, which will hit amphitheaters and arenas from the West Coast to the East. Aaron, the male Carter for those who find older brother Nick too wizened for their tastes, is riding on the success of his single, “That’s How I Beat Shaq,” which he performed at Nickelodeon’s… Read more »

Weezer Go Green – "The Green Album" Due May 15th

Following much hemming and boatload of hawing, all is set in stone for Weezer’s many-moons-in-the-making third album. Produced by Ric Ocasek, The Green Album will drop as planned on May 15th, it’s cover art closely resembling that of the band’s eponymous debut (lovingly called “The Blue Album”) – a picture of the foursome against a solid backdrop. The nod to their 1994 nerd-core breakthrough is no doubt intentional, a clear signal that Rivers Cuomo and Co. have returned, at least in part, to the signature neo-New Wave sound somewhat absent from 1996’s poorer-selling second album, Pinkerton. According to a posting… Read more »

Outkast, New Order Join Moby's Area: One Package

Moby’s inaugural Area: One roving concert festival is taking shape with the addition of hip-hop duo Outkast and electro-rock group New Order to a lineup that includes previously announced acts Incubus and Paul Oakenfold. Rap ensemble the Roots and techno DJ Carl Cox have also been added to the bill, according to Moby’s publicist. “My reason for doing this is that there is a lot of music in the world that I love that does not always get the appropriate exposure,” Moby said in a press release. The revolving lineup will have Incubus and Outkast playing East Coast dates and… Read more »

Aaron Carter: Life Of A 13-Year-Old Pop Star

Yes, his brother is the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter. But that doesn’t mean 13-year-old Aaron Carter shows him a great deal of respect. “When they’re asleep, my brother and my manager, I put shaving cream in their hands and tickle their nose and they smash it into their faces,” says the younger Carter. “I know how to get away Ö fast.” Like his elder sibling, however, Carter is becoming well acquainted with the pop charts and radio playlists. After first finding international success in 1999, his first U.S. release – last fall’s relentlessly cheerful Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) –… Read more »

Pearl Jam Complete First Bootleg Series

Most major rock bands are good for one or two live albums during their careers. As of this week, Pearl Jam have 73 live albums to their credit. The Seattle rockers, now in their 11th year together, took the unprecedented step of releasing a budget-priced “official bootleg” CD from almost every show on their 2000 tour in order to combat pirates and to give fans a good deal. The roll-out occurred in three stages, ending Tuesday with the retail release of 24 CDs from the second half of the U.S. tour. Already in stores were 25 CDs from Europe and… Read more »
