Say Anything Gets Sexy with Fonzie

Up-and-coming rock outfit Say Anything has channeled teen angst into a clever video for its new single, “Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too,” which premieres Monday (March 12) on MTV’s “TRL.” The song’s key lyric is “I called her on the phone and she touched herself,” and in the clip, frontman Max Bemis places said calls to various females from a mansion, as his butler wheels by a gourmet meal. Later, the Fonz himself, Henry Winkler, makes a cameo. “He’s a very good family friend,” Bemis told Billboard.com of Winkler during a break from recording Say Anything’s next album at… Read more »

Nirvana At SXSW? Police At Bonnaroo? Behind The Bogus Festival Lineups

Are the re-formed Smashing Pumpkins set to rock Lollapalooza? Will the long-dormant Police return at Bonnaroo? How about a reunited Nirvana taking the stage at South by Southwest, only with Ben Kweller playing guitar and singing Kurt’s vocals? All three sound too good to be true, little more than the pipe dreams of manic music buffs with way too much free time. But incredibly, they’re all “100 percent confirmed” by sources with intimate knowledge about such things. But don’t go crazy just yet. It’s entirely possible that absolutely none of the above information is true. After all, we’re smack-dab in… Read more »

Fountains Of Wayne Untangle 'Traffic' Jams

Fountains Of Wayne will break a nearly four-year span between studio albums with the April 3 release of the Virgin project “Traffic and Weather.” First single “Someone To Love” will arrive in late February at U.S. radio outlets. “It’s a little bit ‘Elanor Rigby’-esque, in that it’s about these two lonely people living in New York,” group member Adam Schlesinger tells Billboard.com of the single. “It has a disco-y beat, which is something we don’t do a lot of. Melissa Auf Der Maur sings backing vocals, and that’s the first female vocal we’ve had since Dominique Durand from Ivy on… Read more »

Butch Vig Says Garbage Hiatus Is Over; Jimmy Eat World Nearly Done With LP

Last we heard from Garbage, in the fall of 2005, the group was going on an indefinite hiatus. Fortunately for fans, that break is not turning out like, say, Blink-182’s “hiatus.” “We’re recording a couple new songs at the end of February,” drummer Butch Vig revealed recently. “I think everyone’s excited about getting back in a room and playing some music together.” The new tunes will be included on a Garbage greatest-hits album the band is putting together for release later in the year. “We’ve been working on it for a while,” Vig said. “There was originally talk about doing… Read more »

With the decade fast approaching it’s musical climax, 2006 proved to be a big winner for an industry hit by piracy. Rockers Start Writing, Writers Rock

New York – In 2001, Martin Amis, Rick Moody and other authors and artists gathered in New York to honor a peer they regarded as a giant of the times. They compared him to Walt Whitman, Mark Twain and Arthur Rimbaud. They called him a bard, a shaman and a master of “art as revenge.” That man was Bob Dylan. Had he lived in England, he’d be Sir Bob Dylan, maybe even Lord. Scholarly books have compared him to Dante and Keats; admirers lobby for him to get the Nobel Prize. At a 1997 Kennedy Center ceremony, where fellow honorees… Read more »

Just the way I like it.” While Corgan will be guiding the project, he alluded to participation from other artists. “I come in with no songs but maybe one or two, no lyrics, no band… Read more »

Billy Corgan Pulls The Plug On Zwan

Well, we can’t say we’re surprised. Billy Corgan has reportedly broken up his new alt.rock supergroup Zwan after releasing only one album. Corgan appeared on Chicago’s WGN-Channel 9 news program this morning (September 15) to chat with the talking heads and announce that he’s closed the door on Zwan. He claimed that he just wasn’t feeling the Zwan passion in the same way he did with his old band The Smashing Pumpkins. “My heart was in Smashing Pumpkins,” a surprisingly jovial looking Corgan said. “I really enjoyed my experience with Zwan, but at the end of the day, without that… Read more »

Evanescence Make Understatement Of The Year At Chicago Sweat Factory – Review

“You may know this song,” Evanescence singer Amy Lee uttered demurely nine songs into the group’s headlining set Tuesday night at the Congress Theatre. “It’s the song that got us here.” Understatement of the year. Without “Bring Me to Life,” the ubiquitous rap-rock confection featured on Fallen, the Little Rock, Arkansas, troupe would be far more concerned finding people who can pronounce “Evanescence” than finding wall space for their double-platinum album. Now, only five months after the release of Fallen, Evanescence are headlining the Nintendo Fusion Tour, a 20-date excursion that has the band performing after Cold, the group that’s… Read more »
