'O Brother' Soundtrack Fends Off B2K To Hold #1 Slot

It took the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack over a year on the charts to make it to #1, but now that it has, it can’t be stopped. For the second week in a row, the Grammys’ Album of the Year will take the top position on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling nearly 150,000 copies, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday (March 20). The self-titled debut album by boy band B2K will come in second place on next week’s chart, selling nearly 110,000 copies, and Alan Jackson will reclaim top-three status after falling into the still-formidable fifth slot… Read more »

Attention Mall Shoppers: B2K In-Store Canceled By Stampede

At the rate they’re going, B2K may soon have to do all their public appearances via satellite. The young pop/R&B quartet’s current tour with IMX had to be moved from clubs to theaters because of the crowds they were attracting, and on Monday an in-store appearance in Concord, California, was cut short when some fans didn’t want to wait their turn in line. B2K, who released their self-titled debut March 12, were signing autographs at the Sun Valley Mall Sam Goody store when some of the more than 1,000 fans waiting outside bumrushed to the front, according to a mall… Read more »

Mest, Unwritten Law Rock Houston – Review

There was no floor collapsing this time, and the only damage was the broken red guitar belonging to Mest’s lead singer, Tony Lovato. Mest and Unwritten Law played to a sold out crowd last Wednesday in Houston, Texas, and although entertaining, it is also a little frightening for an audience who didn’t exactly know what to expect when a musician expresses his temper on stage. During their fifty minute set, afraid that he was going to get hurt, Lovato warned crowd surfers to watch where they were landing and to not hit his microphone stand. As luck would have it,… Read more »

Gorillaz To Return To Cage After Releasing Dub Disc

Now that their month-long U.S. tour is but a recent memory, animated supergroup Gorillaz are fading into the funny pages for a while, but the individual members will remain active. Vocalist Damon Albarn is releasing an album of West African music and focusing his attention on his longtime outfit Blur, producer Dan the Automator is working on a solo disc as well as producing records by Zack de la Rocha and Peeping Tom, and the remaining Gorillaz will be busying themselves with various other projects. But that doesn’t mean Gorillaz will remain locked up for an extended period of time.… Read more »

Hoobastank Glad-Hand, 311 Toast And Rooster Strut At Emerald City – Review

Hoobastank opened their spring tour with 311 Monday with all the stage presence and salesmanship of a band bursting to ditch its warm-up act status. During their 45-minute set at the Paramount Theatre, singer Douglas Robb glad-handed the crowd at the front of the stage, hyped an upcoming show on a bill with Incubus and reminded the audience of his band’s name not once, not twice, but four times. (As if you forget a handle like Hoobastank.) “That was lovely,” Robb declared after several songs. It was a surprisingly Martha Stewart-ish term for a band pounding out kick-to-the-head mosh music.… Read more »

Evan And Jaron Soldier On With New LP After Producer Stolen By Virgin

Bands often have to compete with other bands when lining up producers. Evan and Jaron had to compete with an entire record label. Needless to say, they lost. “We had Matt Serletic [Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul] to produce our record, but he is now the new chairman and CEO of Virgin, so our gig is kind of out,” Jaron said last week at the Love Rocks concert to honor U2 singer Bono. “So we’re looking for producers now. We may produce it ourselves now. We’re not sure. If we can get it out by the end of the year, that… Read more »

'NSYNC Promise Surprises, Coziness On Celebrity 2002 Tour

‘NSYNC have some surprises in store for fans who presume two massive tours supporting the same album – last year’s Celebrity – is a bit redundant. For the Celebrity 2002 trek, which kicks off March 3 in Portland, Oregon, the pop quintet have traded in stadiums for the cozier confines of arenas, allowing for stripped down, more intimate performances – that is, if your idea of intimate is snuggling up with nearly 20,000 other likeminded pop lovers. Another way the band plans to refrain from giving a repeat performance of PopOdyssey, which began nearly two months before Celebrity was released,… Read more »

System Of A Down Step Up To The Plate At Vegas Opener – Review

The last time System of a Down hit Las Vegas, it was on the Pledge of Allegiance Tour with Slipknot. System held their own on that outing, but now, back in Sin City as the headliner at a more intimate setting – the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s Joint – System had a lot more to prove. By the time the L.A. foursome of Armenian-American rockers strolled casually onto the stark stage, the crowd was already geared up for SOAD’s harsh and heavy sounds. Then the thunder hit. The opening riffs hammered across the venue – no introduction was needed… Read more »

Adema Prep New Songs, Mourn Loss Of Rage Against The Machine

When they finish the Projekt Revolution Tour, which also features Linkin Park, Cypress Hill and DJ Z-Trip, Adema will join Alien Ant Farm, Fenix TX, Glassjaw and others on the already-in-progress SnoCore Festival, which runs until March 30. After that, the band will likely tour on its own through the end of the year. Some bands in such a position long for all those seemingly endless months to pass so they can get home and work on new material. Adema, however, plan to write their next record while they’re on the road, and they’ve already got three complete songs and… Read more »
