O-Town fans hoping for a change of sonic scenery will have to wait only three more months for new material from the pop group. The successor to O-Town’s self-titled debut is due July 9, according to a J Records spokesperson. While the album has yet to be titled, “I Showed Her” has been chosen as its first single and is expected to surface at radio in mid-May. “Favorite Girl,” another track off the album, was written and produced by rapper Nelly, and the group itself takes credit for penning three others. Blink-182 side project Boxcar Racer played their debut show Monday night, exhausting their supply of songs as well as their frontman, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge. Halfway through the band’s 40-minute set at the Mira Mesa Epicentre, a sweat-drenched DeLonge moaned, “F-, I’m tired. I’m out of shape.” Though more likely he just wasn’t used to being the sole focus of attention. Singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has gone hippie, boy band and even naked for Blink-182 videos, but for the first clip with his new side project, he’s sticking with punk rock. The video for Boxcar Racer’s first single, “I Feel So,” is performance-based with “an old-school punk aesthetic,” according to the band’s MCA Records spokesperson. No-Cal scenesters, local yokels, friends and even fans of Jason Newsted’s old band showed up in force to witness the launching of Echobrain’s first tour at an all-ages show at the Mystic Theatre. Echobrain, with drummer Brian Sagrafena and singer/guitarist Dylan Donkin, is Newsted’s first steady gig since leaving Metallica in January 2001.
