Stunned fans of The Who’s John Entwistle left flowers and consoled each other outside a casino concert hall where the bass player who helped make the band one of the biggest in rock history had been expected to perform Friday. Entwistle was found dead Thursday in his Hard Rock Hotel room of an apparent heart attack. The two surviving members of The Who decided Friday to resume their scheduled three-month U.S. tour despite the sudden death of bassist John Entwistle, their bandmate of nearly four decades. “The band decided to recommence the tour beginning at the Hollywood Bowl (a Monday night show),” according to a message posted on guitarist Pete Townshend’s Web site. Dee Dee Ramone, a founding member of punk pioneers the Ramones, died Wednesday night in his Hollywood home, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. The bassist was 50 Ramone (born Douglas Glenn Colvin) was found unresponsive by his wife around 8:40 p.m. She called police, and fire department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. A coroner’s office spokesperson said the case will be treated as a possible accidental drug overdose. Investigators found a syringe and other drug paraphernalia on Ramone’s kitchen counter. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers will launch a North American tour on June 27 in Grand Rapids, Michigan-and the band’s original bassist Ron Blair, who left the band in 1982, will return to the fold to replace Howie Epstein. The Cape Cod home of Aerosmith bass guitarist Tom Hamilton was destroyed in a fire, authorities said. No one was in the house when a fire started just before 7 p.m. Saturday, firefighter James Murphy said. An addition to Hamilton’s home was under construction. Minutes later, a second fire was reported at a barn about a mile away. Horses inside were rescued before flames engulfed the building, Murphy said. The barn is not owned by Hamilton.
