Roth-Hagar Enjoying Their Tour

Any animosity between rockers Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth seems to have settled down. Hagar said they got along early in their tour because they wanted it to work, then they went back into their old selves who don’t like each other. “It’s been pretty tense out there back stage many, many times,” Hagar told reporters. “But like I said, when we went on stage, Dave does a great show, I do a great show, the fans win. And it was really good. But all this stuff back stage got ugly a couple of times. I had to sleep… Read more »

The group – which included longtime GN’R keyboardist Dizzy Reed and a batch of new faces like ex-Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson, ex-Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck and guitarist Buckethead – kicked off its medley with “Welcome to the Jungle,” the song that had thunderingly announced GN’R back on their first… Read more »

Drowning Pool's Williams Remembered As One Of Rock's Nicest

A day after the body of Drowning Pool frontman Dave Williams was discovered on the band’s tour bus, details remained scarce but memories of Williams as a fun-loving, kind-hearted character abounded. The 30-year-old singer was found in his bunk by members of Drowning Pool’s touring crew Wednesday afternoon, their publicist said. The band was in Manassas, Virginia, on its way to Thursday’s Ozzfest show in Bristow. An autopsy conducted Thursday morning proved inconclusive, according to a Prince William County police spokesperson. A cause of death is expected to be determined from toxicology tests, which generally take four to six weeks.… Read more »

Never Mind Britney, Aerosmith Back on the Road

After dismaying some fans by performing with pop princess Britney Spears last year, veteran rock band Aerosmith is hitting the road this week with some more appropriate musical stars in tow. The Boston-based combo, famed for a 30-year string of hits including “Dream On” and “Love in an Elevator,” will begin a three-month tour on Tuesday in New Jersey. Its support acts include rap trio Run-D.M.C., whose 1986 cover version of “Walk This Way” reinvigorated Aerosmith’s career, and Kid Rock, who inducted the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry said… Read more »

The Prince of Darkness will retake his rightful place on the Ozzfest throne sooner than expected. He will now return and resume his headlining slot August 7 in Clarkston, Michigan, according to an Osbournes spokesperson. The new restart date means Osbourne will only miss two dates of the tour: August… Read more »

The song has been tapped as the first single from the Foo Fighters’ fourth album, 1 X 1 (“One By One”), due October 22. Record Companies Say Past Contracts Fair Deals

Major record companies, seeking to quash a brewing revolt by pop stars over royalty payments, on Tuesday released a study backing its claim that the embattled industry has negotiated past contracts fairly. The release of the study, commissioned by the Recording Industry Association of America, came as lawyers for musicians told a California state Senate hearing in Sacramento that the record industry has used faulty accounting to cheat them out of royalties. To bolster its claim that the record business is on the up and up, the RIAA released a study by Michigan State University professor Steven Wildman showing that… Read more »

Sharon Osbourne Says Cancer Has Spread

Sharon Osbourne’s cancer is more serious than was initially diagnosed. After having a foot of her colon removed in surgery July 3, the wife of heavy metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne and matriarch of “The Osbournes” was expected to make a full recovery. However, she told People magazine in an issue published Thursday the cancer had spread. Doctors, who believed they had removed the cancer, later found cancerous cells in one of two lymph nodes removed during the procedure, indicating it had moved beyond her colon. Sharon will undergo three months of chemotherapy beginning July 29 and MTV will document it… Read more »

Papa Ozzy Bares Fangs Again As Ozzfest Hits Boston

When Ozzy Osbourne was chiefly known in middle America for decapitating winged creatures and urinating on the Alamo, he and his annual hard rock hoedown were greeted with protests, boycotts and prayer meetings. But, oh, what a difference a year makes. The former most-feared man in rock has now become its most beloved father figure, courtesy of the rib-tickling warts-and-all series “The Osbournes.” So as he returns to the road for the first time since becoming the toast of prime time, Ozzy and Ozzfest 2002 are being greeted not with protests but with open arms, and at least a few… Read more »
