TV on the Radio explores arty side of "Science"

For a band that makes such edgy, experimental music, TV on the Radio is almost quaint when it comes to its business strategy. “We haven’t put our music in ads so far, and we have a clause in our contract that states our songs won’t be associated with cigarettes, alcohol brands or the military,” singer Tunde Adebimpe says. “We don’t want to see corporate banners at our shows, either. I want the live experience to remain unmarred.” The same uncompromising ethic runs through the songs on the band’s latest record, “Dear Science,” due September 23 via Interscope. Previously signed to… Read more »

The Jonas Brothers invade NYC

Quiet time is a rarity for the Jonas Brothers these days. Following a special performance for more than 500 screaming tween and teen girls at Apple’s downtown Manhattan store on Tuesday night, the brothers – Kevin, 20, Joe, 18, and Nick, 15 – huddled in a stairwell, trying to find a quiet space to conduct an interview with The Associated Press. Good luck with that. Even as they spoke, their words were almost drowned out by deafening, doglike shrieks from girls still trying to find a way to get at their idols, who have set off a boy-band pop craze… Read more »

My Morning Jacket draws fans with high-energy shows

It’s 4 a.m. on the last night of the South by Southwest music conference, and Jim James is belting out Rod Stewart’s “You’re in My Heart.” A few hours earlier, the My Morning Jacket frontman dazzled an intimate crowd at an Austin church with a mostly solo acoustic set, and the full band’s three other performances during the week were some of the most acclaimed of the industry event. But of all the places James could be right now, it’s a cozy terrace suite at Austin’s famed Driskill Hotel, surrounded by a few close friends, a bucket of Miller Lites… Read more »

Judge says Mills claim was `exorbitant'

Heather Mills was a less than candid court witness whose $250 million divorce claim was exorbitant, a judge said in his ruling on her divorce from Paul McCartney. The judgment by Hugh Bennett was released Tuesday, after a court rejected Mills’ attempt to block publication. On Monday, Bennett awarded Mills a $48.6 million divorce settlement after her four-year marriage to the former Beatle. Mills had sought almost $250 million, while McCartney had offered $31.6 million, including Mills’ own assets. In his ruling, the judge said Mills’ claim “is and was unreasonable, indeed exorbitant.” He also said Mills’ evidence was “not… Read more »

Pink's Marriage Fades to Black

Pink’s marriage was apparently not a feel-good time. The pop-punk princess and her husband of just two years, the motocross-racing, Surreal Life-starring Carey Hart, have separated. And by the sounds of things, rather amicably. “This decision was made by best friends with a huge amount of love and respect for one another,” said the singer’s publicist, Michele Schweitzer. “While the marriage is over, their friendship has never been stronger.” Indeed, in a post on her official site (pinkspage.com), Pink blames dueling careers for torpedoing the union. “The most important thing for you all to know, is that Carey and I… Read more »

DMX has been ordered to pay $1.5 million to the mother of his child after the rapper-actor failed to appear in court to defend himself against allegations of defamation. Wayne responded to the comments by filing a $6 million lawsuit against Simmons in Prince George’s County Circuit Court in October 2006. Judge Thomas Smith ruled in Wayne’s favor Friday when Simmons didn’t appear… Read more »
