Muse, MCR Tour Still Hit by Illness

Muse’s big U.S. arena tour with My Chemical Romance has hit another buffer, with a third show cancelled for this weekend. Both bands and their support crew became ‘violently ill’ following a bout of suspected foot poisoning in Virgina following a show on April 29th, which led to two shows being pulled in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Despite managing to perform at New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival over the weekend, the artists and crew continue to feel the ill effects this week and have pulled their show in Portland, Maine this Sunday (May 13th). Playing Bamboozle put the band and crew “in… Read more »

Pete Wentz Look-Alikes Descend on Austin for SXSW

AUSTIN, Texas – Every March, the music industry throws on a pair of shorts, slathers on the SPF 45 and heads on down to Austin for South by Southwest, a weeklong celebration of bands, BBQ and (sometimes free!) beer. It’s a brutal bacchanal and music marathon powered by thousands of acts playing in hundreds of venues – at all hours – plus an unreal number of open-bar tabs and fancy private parties. Sleep is not exactly a top priority, so MTV News has dispatched three of its most tireless reporters into the fray. They’ll be filing reports a few times… Read more »

The Early November Calls it Quits

LOS ANGELES, CA – Drive-Thru Records recording artist THE EARLY NOVEMBER has announced that upon completion of the current tour dates, the band will go on an indefinite hiatus. In a statement issued by the band, the reasons for the hiatus are not the result of disparity amongst the band members. Simply, “As we grow older, priorities change. We have to be where we haven’t been in the past six years; with our friends, family, and loved ones.” The band members also extended their enormous gratitude to all the fans and music lovers that have supported them over the years.… Read more »

Buzz Bands to Watch at SXSW

Among the legions of acts booked for this year’s South by Southwest Music and Media Conference and Festival March 14-18 in Austin, here are 10 that people will be talking about. THE PIPETTES Sure, the Pipettes revel in the ’60s girl group sounds of the Ronettes and the Shangri-Las. And yes, they even conjure up cool memories of British sister-in-song, the beehived Mari Wilson, who covered similar musical ground in the ’80s. Still, the trio, who hail from the British seaside town of Brighton, manage to make songs like “Pull Shapes,” “Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me” and “Dirty Mind”… Read more »

Tegan & Sara Going Gritty on New Album

Rock duo Tegan & Sara are about a third of the way through work on its next album, which is being produced by Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla and recorded at his new studio in Portland, Ore. The as-yet-untitled set is expected later this year via Sanctuary. “When they asked me to do this, it was last March or April,” Walla tells Billboard.com. “A long time ago now. I got the demos pretty shortly thereafter, and those were my favorite record of 2006. It’s kind of crazy revisiting all the songs after living with the demos for so… Read more »

The Shins Greet The Big Time With Insomnia And A Wince

Much has already been written about the Shins’ new album, Wincing the Night Away (which comes out Tuesday), including the fact that the majority of the songs were inspired by singer/songwriter James Mercer’s bouts of “crippling insomnia.” Whether or not that’s entirely true is debatable , but what’s more interesting is the fact that, for the first time in almost 15 years of playing together, the Shins have become a band about which much is written. And more pertinently, very little of it is about their career-making shout-out in Zach Braff’s 2004 flick, “Garden State,” or one of their songs… Read more »
