Feuding Bands Get Chance to Make Up

In some ways, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony is like a family reunion, giving loved ones a chance to reconnect and share loving memories. But as with many families, feuds can simmer and threaten to ruin that nice little gathering. The unknown element in the weeks leading up to the hall’s annual event is often whether hard feelings can be set aside. On Monday, the Talking Heads – the foursome that was part of punk’s first generation and stayed together for more than a decade before dissolving in acrimony and lawsuits in the 1990s – were… Read more »

Madonna Will 'Die' For James Bond Theme, Possible Cameo

Madonna’s no beautiful stranger to spy films – she’s acted up a storm as Breathless Mahoney in 1990’s “Dick Tracy” and contributed one song to the 1999 spy spoof “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.” Now she’s going for the real thing – shaken, not stirred – with the title track to the 20th James Bond film, “Die Another Day.” “We are thrilled that Madonna, who is recognized as the world’s most exciting songwriter and performer, has agreed to compose and sing the song for the first James Bond movie of the new millennium,” said the film’s team of… Read more »

Sony Nixes Rumors of Deal for Jacko Catalog

Sony Music moved swiftly Tuesday to stamp out a swirl of speculation that it was maneuvering to acquire the remaining half of ATV Music Publishing – which includes more than 250 songs from the Beatles’ back-catalog – from waning superstar Michael Jackson. “We are not in discussions with Mr. Jackson over the sale of his share of the ATV catalog,” a Sony rep insisted. “These rumors are completely baseless.” But the insider chatter over a possible deal nevertheless put a spotlight on the Gloved One’s financial situation, which has reportedly deteriorated steadily amid declining record sales, legal expenses and superstar-level… Read more »

Michael Jackson Might Surrender Beatles Catalog

Michael Jackson could be forced to give up his share of the Beatles’ song catalog to Sony Music Publishing. Jackson famously bought the catalog for $47.5 million in 1985, and then sold half of it to Sony in 1991 for a reported $100 million. In the last several years, stories have circulated that Jackson is having money troubles. In the mid-’90s, the “King Of Pop” asked Sony to guarantee a $200 million loan from lenders, using his 50-percent ownership in the Beatles catalog as collateral, notes foxnews.com. It has been reported that Sony Music Publishing’s president Richard Rowe is in… Read more »

UK's Sex Pistols to Reissue 'God Save the Queen'

British punk legends the Sex Pistols are to reissue their anarchic song “God Save the Queen” to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 50 years on the throne, their record company said Thursday. “(The record) is to be reissued around the Golden Jubilee celebrations on May 27,” Virgin Records said in a statement. “It will feature the original artwork.” The single’s anti-royal lyrics and cover image of the queen with a safety pin through her nose caused outrage on its first release in 1977. The song includes the verse: “God save the Queen/She ain’t no human being/There is no future/In England’s dreaming.” While… Read more »

Man Barred From Harrison Memorabilia

A judge ruled that George Harrison’s former brother-in-law is not allowed to sell Harrison memorabilia. A preliminary injunction was granted against Carl Roles, who used to be married to the sister of Harrison’s wife, Olivia. Olivia Harrison claims Roles stole ten boxes of clothes, records and memorabilia from their home in the 70’s, then tried to sell it the day after Harrison died. Roles says he had permission to remove the things from the house and he denies he tried to sell them. Harrison died November 29, 2001. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are the last remaining Beatles.

Harrison Death Mystery Solved

The mystery surrounding former Beatle George Harrison’s death certificate has been solved-and it appears he really did die at Paul McCartney’s house. Sort of. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Tuesday that friends of the late guitarist have corrected Harrison’s death certificate, after the first version listed a fake address as the place where he died. As it turns out, Harrison died at a Hollywood Hills mansion once leased by McCartney. District Attorney Steve Cooley said that noted security expert Gavin de Becker, who was with Harrison in his final days, submitted a different address for Harrison’s location… Read more »
