Rob Zombie Directs Two Videos During Unexpected 'Break'

Rob Zombie fans are about to experience what he was doing with his three weeks off the Merry Mayhem Tour, which launched on Halloween, while co-headliner Ozzy Osbourne recovered from a broken leg. During the down time, Zombie returned to Los Angeles and directed not one but two videos, his own “Never Gonna Stop (The Red, Red Kroovy)” and Ozzy’s “Dreamer,” each of which will be seen early in the new year. In fact, he finished shooting both within one very busy mid-November week. “Never Gonna Stop (the red, red kroovy)” will be the second track and video spun off… Read more »

Fuel running on empty – Review

The Pennsylvania-based foursome Fuel records songs that sound fairly good on rock radio – the band has an impressive three-year string of hits lifted from its two major-label albums. In concert, though, it runs out of gas. Fuel tries very hard to kick everyone’s ass ’70s style but comes across as little more than an eager garage band with very little originality to offer. There was much headbanging style in effect at the House of Blues with little musical or lyrical substance to back any of it up. The band was led Saturday, the first of two sold-out shows, by… Read more »

''God'' tops U.S. record charts

Retailers have seen a groundswell in demand for music with patriotic themes in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, sending record labels scrambling to keep the supply coming. That fervor helped to drive Columbia Records’ benefit compilation “God Bless America” to No. 1 in an otherwise quiet week for music sales. Nearly 181,000 copies of “God Bless America” headed out the door in the week ended Oct. 21, according to data compiled by SoundScan. Columbia parent Sony Music said a “substantial portion” of proceeds from the release, which includes tracks by Celine Dion, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, will… Read more »

Judas Priest Singer Says No Connection To 'Rock Star'

In the new movie Rock Star, a young man fronting a cover band is tapped to join his heroes and replace their lead singer. The story should sound familiar, since it’s patterned after what happened to Tim “Ripper” Owens, the cover-band singer who replaced Rob Halford in Judas Priest. However, Owens told LAUNCH that while Rock Star might sound similar to his story, the moviemakers chose to exclude him and his bandmates from the project. “There was a New York Times article on me, and they bought the rights to the story and they called us,” he said. “And from… Read more »

Ozzfest Ranks As A Top Concert Draw

When the wife of heavy metal god Ozzy Osbourne came up with the idea of a tour featuring the heavy hitters of metal and hard rock, the reaction from the concert industry was lukewarm, at best. “In my gut feeling, I felt that it would definitely work, because there was a huge void in the marketplace for it,” Sharon Osbourne recalled. “Not a lot of people in the market agreed with me at the time.” Certainly, no one can disagree with her now. Ozzfest, now in its sixth year, has consistently ranked as one of the top concert draws of… Read more »
