AC/DC has come clean about a knife-pulling incident during the group’s 1977 tour opening for Black Sabbath in Europe. In the Cash For Questions fan feature in the new edition of the British music magazine Q, AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young confirms that Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler did pull a knife on his opening act. The amusement park has banned controversial rocker Marilyn Manson from performing at Six Flags Darien Lake on August 11 when the 2003 Ozzfest tour rolls into town, claiming his act is inappropriate for the venue. Folks who have checked into this year’s Summer Sanitarium have noted how all the opening bands are singing praises to Metallica. Limp Bizkit even cover “(Welcome Home) Sanitarium” and flash the words “Metallica is the sh-” onscreen during their set. Such over-the-top idol worship might seem a bit forced, but the headliners insist it’s not. Double duty wasn’t necessarily what new Voivod member (and recently announced Ozzy Osbourne bassist) Jason Newsted had in mind when he left Metallica over two years ago, but that’s exactly what he’ll be doing this summer as Voivod and Ozzy play Ozzfest 2003. Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx says no one should line up for 2003 concert tickets just yet. I spent 24 hours on the road with Good Charlotte recently. Most of what I saw I already knew from TV reports on tour-bus life, probably from episodes of “Diary”: You can’t do much in the bathroom, it’s eight grown men living in the space of a large bedroom, running water is a luxury and the food sucks.
