In anticipation of their forthcoming release “Atomic,” Lit have lined up a slew of TV performances and other promotional activities surrounding its October 16 CD release date. “Atomic” is the follow-up to their platinum-plus “A Place In The Sun,” which garnered the hit singles “Miserable,” “Zip-Lock,” and the #1 Billboard Modern Rock song of 1999, “My Own Worst Enemy.” Earlier this summer fans got a taste of “Atomic” with the song “The Last Time Again” when it was featured in the #1 smash comedy movie “American Pie 2.” The official first single, “Lipstick and Bruises,” is currently #11 on Billboard’s… Read more »

Stars leaving egos at home for the Emmys

The Emmys, television’s highest honors, will be presented belatedly Sunday under the cloud of the Sept. 11 attacks with many stars planning to bypass strutting down the red carpet and to leave their egos and low-cut dresses at home. “It’s an awkward time for everybody, and people are still feeling unsure about whether it’s the right time or not,” said veteran Hollywood publicist Heidi Schaeffer. “People aren’t looking to call attention to themselves right now.” Reflecting the Emmys’ subdued tone this year, many stars have decided to forego the ceremony’s red-carpet arrival, among them nominees Martin Sheen of “The West… Read more »

J-Lo Says "I Do''

Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez has married choreographer Cris Judd in a private ceremony near Los Angeles, her spokesman confirmed Sunday. The nondenominational ceremony took place Saturday evening at a private residence in Calabasas and was attended by about 170 guests, said Alan Nierob, a spokesman for Lopez. “It was beautiful. The couple couldn’t be happier,” Nierob said of the wedding, which came seven months after Lopez publicly split from rap impresario Sean “Puffy” Combs. Lopez, 31, and Judd, 32, reportedly met while he was working on one of her music videos. More recently he choreographed two Lopez concerts shot in Puerto… Read more »

Concert Venues Around The Country Step Up Security

As entertainment venues nationwide step up security measures in response to last week’s devastating terrorist attacks, concertgoers are seeing a greater presence of security workers and police as well as longer lines due to stricter search procedures. But more significant changes are happening behind the scenes as venues beef up their pre-event surveillance, make adjustments to loading and backstage policies and tighten checks of all individuals – not just fans – entering the building. “Behind the scenes is where any of the anti-terrorism type of security precautions will occur,” Gary Bongiovanni, editor of concert industry magazine Pollstar, said. “That means… Read more »

LA Award Shows, Madonna Concert Off; Studios Close

The nation’s entertainment capital shut down Tuesday as two major awards shows and a Madonna concert were canceled and most of Hollywood’s big studios closed their doors in response to horrific terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. It was the day the music died for the 2nd annual Latin Grammy Awards show, a glitzy music industry event which ironically had been moved to Los Angeles from Miami for security reasons last month. Organizers of the star-studded gala said the $4 million production, which was to have been broadcast Tuesday night in the United States and 120 other countries,… Read more »

Review: Madonna Casts Ray Of Light On New Material

Showing no signs of fatigue or question marks about making a show revolve around material from her last two albums, Madonna started her final stop on the Drowned World Tour Sunday with a mesmerizing and confident performance that puts to shame any singer who thinks she might have a shot at Ms. Ciccone’s pop throne. Madonna frames blocks of songs in various settings, using mix-and-match motifs that yield differing results. In the end, she emerges triumphant – a reminder of why her star has never dimmed. Hundred-minute show closes on “Holiday,” Madonna’s first top 40 single from way back in… Read more »

Offspring, Incubus Lead Fierce Inland Invasion – Review

If one point was driven convincingly home at this all-day modern rock festival, it’s that southern California has a lot of really great bands treading the boards these days. Six of the best of the bunch (which also includes Stone Temple Pilots, No Doubt, 311 and even Blink-182) headlined this charity gathering, sponsored by L.A.’s KROQ-FM, and Levi’s – and each band’s strong performance lived up to the considerable preshow hype. The post-Sublime reggae-dub bunch Long Beach Dub Allstars kicked off the action on the bigger of two stages around 4 p.m. with 30 minutes of laid-back tracks from their… Read more »

Rollins Band A Million Miles Away From Creed, 'Artistic Flop' Britney

Henry Rollins isn’t a fan of much metal music these days. He even claims to have never listened to an entire Rage Against the Machine song. That doesn’t, however, mean he can’t relate to the Bizkit bunch. A seasoned singer, author, actor and spoken-word performer, Rollins has a knack for relating to most everything. “I hear some guy sing, ‘You f ed me over, you bitch.’ I used to write those songs,” Rollins said from his Los Angeles office last month. “When the girl left me, she got at least a 20-page indictment in my journal and two songs about… Read more »

At The Vans Warped Tour, Punk, Served More Often Sweet Than Raw

Punk as an aid for getting in touch with one’s feelings has superseded the other modes evident at this year’s Warped Tour. As in their ordinary lives, these fans had too many options. Thirty bands played on eight stages, and the event also included professional skateboarding and mountain- biking displays, a wrestling ring, a Playstation tent, numerous ways to spend money or learn about political causes and of course the chance to peruse one another’s concertgoing finery. So most fans locked into a perambulatory pattern, meandering around the festival’s circular layout as the fairground grew dusty, then muddy, from the… Read more »
